It worked perfectly in the US, so why not?
Taking advantage of idiots is apparently very effective.
What’s sad is that you’re so optimistic or in denial that you think your fellow Americans had to be deceived by foreign powers to elect Trump
Name recognition is it. That is all that he needed to be a “perfect candidate”. Few had to be “convinced” to vote for Trump.
They should stop checking age and start testing critical thinking abilities to use the internet. No problem if you aren’t up to snuff, here is a class to help. Don’t want to take the class? No internet.
I know the China, USA, and Russia all do this all over the world, but I wonder sometimes if small nations like Peru do the same thing, but it’s like just one guy on Quora
The people swayed by these bot armies either won’t belive its happening or won’t care
Because it agrees with their own biases. Same thing when they harp about Soros funding progressive causes, but asleep when the Koch brothers and Musk fund causes that lead to the collective destruction of humanity. These people are sheep.
NPCs swayed by bots, a match made in
heavenhell.
I’m waaaaay more worried about usian election interference. What shit is Elon up to for instance?
That’s the same thing. They’re on the same side since agent Krasnov got elected.
yeah the richest man of the world is actually secretly controlled by russia 🙄
No, but Russia is controlled by rich oligarchs, and rich oligarchs have the same interests everywhere.
no they don’t? They are in constant competition with each other especially western oligarchs, like elon, have an adversarial relationship with russia and want bring their resources under their own control.
When has Elon ever moved against Russia? The only thing I can think of is letting Ukrainians use Starlink but he gets a ton of money out of it and explicitly forbids the military from using it
Don’t forget he was letting russians use it too until he got pressured into blocking it.
Also look at the parties they support in German elections (and I think it’s the same everywhere). It’s the same.
I don’t think there are any secrets about it, it’s pretty overt
do you have some links? How does russia control elon?
By him directly profiting from everything they do. They use his platform to bot farm, they raise demand for Starlink (and were themselves using it for a good half of the full scale invasion), they interfere in foreign elections together. Literally open Twitter and look at the pro-russian takes. Or anti-LGBT+, since, again, that’s the same thing.
Money can’t buy friends, and Elon has a desperate need for people to like him.
What do you think an experienced KGB operative would be willing to do to make someone like that feel …liked ?
Fsb nowadays.
i don’t know, you tell me?
Okay, I’m telling you that he’s a very attractive asset, and that a bit of ego stroking provides a large return on investment.
Russian and US bots are also all over Alberta (Canada) politics right now too.
Right… The only reason citizens in any country are upset is because of influence by an external entity.
Sure. Can’t be any other explanation. No valid concerns. Got it.
The power structure works to protect the power structure. No way this warning is the disinformation?
It’s not to make people upset, it’s to make already upset people avoid working together on creating solutions.
In the US, that’s what the 2 major parties are for. Each blames foreign influence for the extremes of the opposition (within or out of the actual party). Articles just parroting some in-power government agency’s assertion are clearly just carrying water for the power structure they thrive in and support. No questioning, no demanding those claims be backed up by any evidence. By the time actual journalists dig into whatever was used to support the claim (if it exists at all), it ends up being the most benign nonsense that could hardly be called a coordinated campaign by external actors. By then, enough people just see the headlines and believe it on the surface because it aligns with the us vs them narrative. It serves the powerful in my country to claim there’s some external enemy rather than give the masses any room to realize that power structure serves big business interests and the disagreements are largely for show.
You and belluck have a point, they want to keep people with similar interests divided rather than work on solutions. It’s just far more likely that coordinated divide and conquer campaign is coming from inside the country than outside.
Saying foreign powers are running disinformation campaigns does not mean that there is no other cause for discontent. The threat here is that Russia (as well as others not mentioned here because Politico is owned by Axel Springer) is turning people towards explicitly anti-democratic, authoritarian parties (in Germany, it’s BSW for the „far left“ (according to noone but themselves) and AFD for the far right. If you spend any amount of time looking into both parties, it becomes very obvious that they are puppets for rich authoritarian elites, including the Russian government.)
yep. enjoy Europe, and good luck.
~signed the people with brains in the usa
worked in the u.s. … but the u.s. was already in the middle of a civil war that never ended. racism is fucking everywhere, which is terribly easy to exploit to manipulate those asshat voters.
do those countries have similar [emotional] cracks to be exploited?
Germany certainly has. Runs right through the country
Well yeah. That’s how it works. Military psyop techniques with readily available datasets = putin-friendly fascist juntas.
And the Swedish disinformation defence … organisation has been having so much success that they’re the right wing’s chosen whipping boy online.
You can often judge someone’s character just by who the enemies they make.
