    You’re probably right. I haven’t touched a windows in so many years that from what I remembered Arial is a known thing, but I don’t remember Helvetica being a thing.

    I’ll trust your assessment.

      Helvetica was very popular for its unapologetically modernist and neutral look, such that its overuse was criticized even before Arial swooped in — it was particularly widespread in corporate and government design. Microsoft cloned Helvetica as Arial so as to not pay for the licensing, but Arial is disliked by typeface designers for details which elude me (just like other MS fonts). Of course, Arial dominated home and office printing and web design ever since, as it was readily available. Apple licenses Helvetica proper and ships it in MacOS.
