[two characters are talking in front a modern city full of skyscrapers]

[blue, annoyed] I feel betrayed by the current political system! Let’s get rid of it, I want major changes now!

[green] You naive fool, the only thing we can realistically accomplish is gradual reforms

[blue] Okay then, I’ll vote for you, now please actually do some gradual reforms

[now in a political office, green is sitting behind the desk, dressed in a suit, looking presidential]

[green, smirking smugly while shrugging] Sorry, best I can do is constantly move to the right to please conservatives, the current political system leaves us no other choice

[blue is looking both pissed and defeated, has no words]

Mistake #1 letting politicians speak for you.

Mistake #2 listening to what the politicians are saying.

Mistake #3 believing a single word a politician says.

After today, of all days, I will be taking no memes/strips about this from anybody that doesn’t keep blood-soaked ties, scalped hair inserts and shattered cufflinks as serial killer trophies.

Or is running for office, at the absolute least. But bloody ties are better.

The importance of having a variety of tactics instead of just relying on voting and peaceful protests.

      Diversifying your means of action.

If elections don’t bring meaningful change, then still vote (for harm reduction), but also organize outside of the electoral system. Unionizing, striking, protesting, building mutual aid networks was how my country acquired and defends its workers rights. That’s the main message behind the comic :)

PS: As a lot of lemmy users are from the USA (I’m not), I’d like to point out that can actually play your system by building voting blocs to defend your interests. If they start having more influence than big donors or PACs, then you might actually start seeing your interests represented. Losing a million $ is a big hit, losing a million voters is deadly. The current voting blocs are mostly conservative, time to build some progressive ones if you want to get anywhere.

But then they might have to say mean things to liberal proto-fascists and that might lead to the creation of the fourth Reich (ignore the Nazis in government those don’t count).
