Between higher costs, shittier offerings, and every single one of these companies bending the knee to Trump, do you need any more reason to dump them and set up a Jellyfin server with an ARR stack?
“But I want to support the creatives”
Amazon or whoever is paying the creatives whether you pay Amazon or not. Pay creatives who don’t work under fascist supporters.

Entice people with low costs and huge streaming libraries
Slowly raise prices
Shuffle content around to fragment the market and simulate competition
Raise prices some more
Keep shuffling to ensure people have to keep paying for the same content more than once
Introduce ads on paid services
Stop dumping whole seasons at once, release things an episode at a time to make people retain subscriptions
Welcome to Cable TV 2.0, where you pay more for less, over and over, and you pay for the bandwidth, too.
I decided to stop giving monetary support to corporate streaming services when Netflix gave Paltrow a show to peddle her pseudoscience quackery.
Haven’t missed anything.
There is another way…
That’s when I stopped too! Literally gave up my subscription then, never went back. It was proven her products hurt people and were complete bullshit, but Netflix prioritized their bait. So, I de prioritized them from my wallet.
Nice to meet you, fellow person with principles.
wild, the cost of my VPN hasn’t changed at all.

Not much inflation on the high seas.
looks at skyrocketing hard drive prices
Ah shieeeeeet.
sort funny given its the very easiest thing to drop.
lmao
lmfao even
The answer to this problem can be piracy, but there’s also just rotating your subscription churn.
Sign up for HBO for a month, go to cancel, and take the next 6 months half off offer.
Cancel HBO after the discount period, and then sign up for Netflix for 2 months, then cancel and go to back to HBO, or pick any other streamer you want, but only pay for one at a time.
The channels are starting to get so expensive it’s not even worth doing this anymore. You have to have something I want to pay to watch at a price I’m willing to pay. Netflix hasn’t had anything I’ve wanted to watch in years. Rebooting Harry Potter on HBO is not an enticement to subscribe.
I’m also not supporting some Trump-related conglomerate. Paramount/CBS won’t be getting any more of my money, even if the Star Trek garbage they’ve been pumping out somehow improves. And any other network they buy, I won’t be watching.

If they start the first season of dozens of new shows and then cancel the run immediately, would that change your opinion?
I’ve been feeling this recently. My jellyfin recently tripled in price.
May I introduce movieboxpro?

Even though I have access to some streaming services other people are paying for, I still usually end up on lookmovie due to how disruptive the ads are. It’s also nice skipping the step where you have to figure out where something is streaming at the moment.
justwatch.com will tell you where something is streaming.
Streamflation = cancellation.
If the broadcast networks weren’t owned by the same companies as the streamers, it would be a real opportunity for them. Alas, we live in an age where all the media outlets continue to merge into one giant mechagodzilla.
