Finally got around to getting a cheap SIM to play around with secondary devices. I threw it into my Ubuntu Touch OnePlus Nord N10 for fun and was absolutely shocked to see that VoLTE worked and calls worked perfect! Last I looked VoLTE was still in heavy development and far off. This is awesome, and the biggest hurdle to daily driving UT in the USA as we can only call on VoLTE.

Now RCS support would be awesome but I’m not sure if that’s doable.

FWIW, Sailfish OS also supports VoLTE on all except the oldest supported devices. I.e., starting with the Sony Xperia X10 II (2020).

Sorry, can’t resist shilling for my phone OS of choice.

    How’s Ubuntu Touch nowadays? Daily-driveable?

I wish I could test more OSes, unfortunately this is the only one that supports this device. I don’t have a frame of reference.

Because until recently (I guess) calling wasn’t possible in my country I never tried.

I don’t see why not. It’s still clunky, a bit dated looking, and lacking native apps. But I could do most of what I want to do. Not quite ready for me personally but it’s doable.

I DD’d Touch for a couple years about 3-4 years ago. It was fine then as a phone, though the MMS sucked. I’ve heard they’ve sorted all that out.
