My wife wants to paint our bedroom drawers, so got some testers and painted a small section on each drawer. She called me in and asked which I preferred.

    I gave my answer.

“No, it’s none of them,” she replied, “None of them are any good”

I’m glad she asked my opinion.

I have a mini anxiety spike every time my wife asks my opinion. I know my opinion means nothing and shes already decided, but I have to guess right to validate her choice, which I have to figure out by watching for nigh-imperceptible tells.

Arbitrarily forcing a choice to clarify your feelings on the matter can actually be very useful, it’s just a bit rude to use other people for it. When I have a choice like this I’ll sometimes throw some dice (d6, 1-3 for white, 4-6 for blue), if I’m happy or don’t mind what they landed on then it’s the correct choice, if I’m not I’ll probably realize which option I was secretly hoping for and go with that.

This is a real life hack. I’ll flip a coin to make a decision all the time, not because I’m beholden to the coin’s result, but because while the coin is spinning I’m suddenly aware of which side I hope it lands on.

This is what I do too :) it is seriously a crazy life hack and it’s helped me also figure out how close my preferences actually are - like if I’m one number away from a different outcome and I breathe relief, there you go, but if I didn’t care that’s also fine too

Some version of me and my wife.

Wife: “Which trousers should I keep?”
Me (pointing at a pair):“The blue ones look good!”
Wife: “That’s green. Anyway, I’ll keep the grey ones.”

        Funnily enough, neither.
But I have the distinct impression that women have a completely different concept of “colour” than men. (Well, different than me, at least…)

They totally do, they can see more colours than men can.

To us, we can kind of tell theres a difference between egg-shell white and creamy-white if you put them side by side, but we couldnt really tell you there was a difference otherwise. They really honestly can tell.

I actually like this as a decision making tool.

Flip a coin, if the outcome truly doesn’t matter, go with whatever it says. If you’re disappointed with what the coin decided, go with the other one.

Ask, they said white, preferred they would have said blue, you now know you prefer the blue one.

Looked through the comments section. I had thought this was a joke about the stereotype of how gals don’t like wearing the same thing / be caught matching?

Sometimes you need someone to remove the element of voice to actually realise if you feel comfortable with the pick.

Other times you want to know which would your buddy pick so if in the future they do pick that one, you don’t have the same wearable.

Sometimes they are being a dick by implying that your taste sucks so whatever you pick is the one they shouldn’t.
