Play an Ocarina of Time when it first came out, which means I was playing straight through with no sleep, until I finally came upon the volcano level and got stuck. I got so frustrated that I went to the GameStop and picked up a strategy guide. Only to discover that the section I was stuck on was actually super easy and I was just sleep deprived. So I went to bed and came back the next day and I overcame that obstacle in like 3 seconds.

Day 1 US release. The original Legend of Zelda was my first grade school crack addiction, no way I wasn’t getting OoT on day 1 back then.

I’m lucky that I have really good spacial sense, I’ve never hated water dungeons the way a lot of people do.

On Sunday I got to Kearush, an infamously hard boss in Crimson Desert. I was immediately crushed by him and wondered how long I’d be stuck on this damn boss before I could progress the story. Then I see there’s an update. Lo and behold, they nerfed him and I beat him first try. First and probably only time I’ve been assisted by the developers in realtime to beat a boss!

Look up a walkthrough: dodge his attacks and counter. Oh jeez thanks never thought of that

This has not been a problem since YouTube became a thing.

Now I can watch someone beat it to see if I’m doing something wrong. Sometimes I am, and sometimes the boss is actually hard, but now I know which.

Except then you got to wade through a dozen videos all an hour long that are like 55 minutes longer than need to be.

You can literally see the length of the video as you search, idk what to tell you, this has never been an issue for me

I’m confused by this comment. I know how long the videos are, my point is they are too long. That’s what’s never been an issue for you? You’ve never found a YouTube video that is way longer than it needs to be?

YouTube algorithms are purposely designed to encourage longer videos. There’s no way you’ve never seen a video that isn’t incredibly inflated with fluff.

You and I must be using different Youtubes. Any time I look up an Elden Ring or Silksong boss guide video, the person recording it starts with a “This boss is actually really easy…”

Videos also help a lot when I have trouble navigating levels (Dark Souls is kinda notorious for that), and when they’re that confusing, the layout is pretty hard to visualize in maps, too.

I’m only in the first area after the tutorial one, and I’m completely lost. I’ve just been killing monsters to farm level ups.

“this boss is super easy because it just focuses on one strat, so all you need to do is the opposite of what it’s doing”

Me at the gimmick dragon boss in Demon’s Souls. It’s supposed to be super easy to just run in, time your movements to be behind some walls to avoid the flame attacks and hit 2 switches. But my game appears to be bugged, and it hits me with the flame attack before I even get down the hallway to the actual room the dragon is in. I can’t find anything else showing this happening, can’t figure out a solution to fixing the bug, and there’s no alcoves or anything to hide in while trying to get across the hallway, and no matter what I do to try and mitigate the damage to try and tank through I still die in one hit to it. 😬

I have even started a new game TWICE since hitting this part and I get the same shit every time. Becsuse of this, it is the ONLY Fromsoft game I haven’t completed.

Then theres the opposite where you tear through a bunch of hard bosses on accident because it turns out that you should really play outside of the genre. Or with me and the MGS:3 remake where I wish European Survival was unlocked from the start.

Sometimes the boss is easy if you do the right thing. In RE5 there are reapers that can one shot you, and I was so annoyed with them, thinking of giving up on the game. Turns out they are super easy to kill with the machine pistol. Can’t properly swap weapons in this game until you die though. Stupid game design IMO

You can press 1-9 depending on which inventory slot it’s equipped in. It’s a good idea to keep all the things you want to easily equip in the first few slots of your inventory.
