Reminiscent of the “marriage” quest line in DS3 where do this to the character with horus is hanging around with after the birds, before the non poisonous swamp.
I maintain the opinion that nobody would ever figure out that full quest line without a guide. Like I remember something about a invisible NPC you need to kill or some such nonsense.
Not invisible but disguised, and there is a hint with a sound the first time you enter the bonfire area. But yeah, like most souls quest lines outside of sekiro, it is pretty convoluted.
