Translation tools have a hard time with this font. It first suggested “acting partner”, then it thought it said “gardener”. I did some searching, and I believe it’s “theater partner”, as in this guy is her date to the theater(movies?), she realized she was overdressed compared to him, and then traded clothes with the other woman.

‘Theater partner’ is literal translation. Basically it is her date for an actual theater performance.
The implications is that going to a theater or opera means you have to dress up. It was still true about 30 years ago.
The basket and wallet indicates that she thinks he is dressed for a date to go to the piac (kinda farmer’s market but not fancy at all think of fish market just no fish).

I see what you mean, she has a different expression, more confident, and her hair looks more wild.

With the dress she’s showing her waist and bosom but the style looks a bit outdated for us now.

Totally agree the guy is hot haha

Dress in a way that relaxes you. Clothes are for protecting your body and feeling comfortable. Everything else is humans losing the plot.

I would argue fashion/self-expression is also a main purpose of clothing. We like being creative and are drawn to aesthetics. Some people like dressing up or doing fancy makeup even when they’re not going out to interact with people just because the art itself is entertaining.

So I disagree that comfort and protection are the only intrinsic purpose of clothing.

I disagree that self-expression and comfort are two different things in this regard.

Expressing yourself can absolutely make you feel more comfortable. :)
