The illusion of time can’t escape from the black hole of 2020
Recently got a video recommendation that said “20 yrs ago” and I seriously thought it was a bug before realising it’s possible.
I saw one of my favorites recently again after a friend quoted a phrase that made me remember it - and it’s literally a comedy AMV from 19 years ago.

Man I can believe YouTube is that ol-
Unfun fact: In two days, the oldest video on YouTube, “Me at the zoo” by jawed (which is also the very first video uploaded to the platform by a public account), will be exactly 21 years old.
nuh-uh
that video was posted like, 10 years ago at most, and you can’t convice me otherwise
We are still functionally living in the 2010s
I think COVID played a role in that
2014
You mean 2004, right?
Right?
I think we’re old.
I’m tired, boss
It’s hard to believe Skyrim is already 19 years old
Don’t do that to me!

The 90s were just 10 years ago.
I had my first actual small internal crisis the other day where I felt brief but real panic, like I was drowning:
The Titan submersible is less than two months from its three-year implosionversary. Time stopped feeling real. Like, no, right? Surely no?
So, when as a society do we drop the 20 in front? Like it’s 26.
Like how they used to do in the late 1900s?
Ya, totally. It’s such an odd thing. Like when does it become socially excepted? In the late 30s? I feel like 36 is a good start but i don’t understand why i think that.
Yeah, I bet people will say “twenties” to mean 2020s on or before 2040.
I already do.
I’ve recently found a good way to estimate how long ago something was:
Guess a number of years, multiply by 2, add 4 if it was pre-covid.
I get it right suprisingly often.
