Title text: This is how you all fucking sound
[A smug tech bro wearing a sideways cap, watch, chain around his neck stands in front of a data center by a lake with dead fish. A smoke stack blows pollution into the air]
Tech bro: AI is already here, there’s no going back.
[A smug man in a suit with cigarette in hand stands in a restaurant while two disgruntled diners cough from the smoke]
Suit: Smoking indoors is already here, there’s no going back.
[A smug man in a top hat and suit stands in a factory with two sad and dirty children]
Hat: Child labor is already here, there’s no going back.
[A smug plantation owner stands in front of a field with with two angry slaves]
Plantation owner: The Atlantic Slave trade is already here, there’s no going back.

I might offend many Lemmy users here, but given their sizeable demographic in this platform, I think those who detract AI are older folks who are probably just having a negative reaction to things novel to them.
Or younger kids who rightfully are pissed it’s taking entry level jobs away. I’m extremely sympathetic at my 48 years but my god people the genie is out of the bottle and we can’t wish it away.
Being optimistic, I see UBI on the horizon. It’s absolute suicide if we delay too long.
I am concerned as well that it would displace us from work. But most of the criticism of AI I met are, frankly, older people who think it’s still dumb as a rock and could never improve. Although they don’t realise that they are likely experiencing averse reaction to what is new. Meanwhile, the younger people, as we are already talking about, recognise it’s improving over time. Hence, the youths being concerned of being put out of job (I never met a young person who still think the AI doesn’t have any potential). So the latter group recognise that AI is working, as opposed to the older generations.
I won’t disagree however the demographic here I imagine skews younger which then makes me wonder about where the truth lies. I can only speak from my experience and I see everyone my age and younger at work overwhelmingly embracing it for different purposes.
My big concern is there seems to be a drop off at 30 on the sheer fact of there are literally no kids to be found at my work. They may be adopting it, they don’t have jobs lol
Or people who see the whole economic shitshow and creative accounting behind the current bubble… And who profit from it. I won"t say LLMs have no use, but the use cases certainly do not justify the level of (circular) investments put into it.
At least now I know copyright infringement do not exist.
I mean, regardless of the speculative bubble, some people think AI is dumb as a rock when it’s not really. Maybe three or four years ago it was, but the gradual improvement is clear as day. This is clearly better than the bots that write webpages before the advent of AI. Although, I still would not trust AI to do more complex tasks in my workplace.
Whether they admit it or not, I just think those who are staunchly anti-AI are averse to the new, and/or thinking that their first experience with the first model of a technology, which tends to be bad, is end-all-be-all. I certainly remember when I thought Bluetooth headphones won’t ever improve, because the first models sold had bad connectivity.
It is dumb as a rock, but as long as the solution you need is the one statistically significant in its dataset, it’ll work for you. But too many people expect it to think for them.
I guess so. People tend to overestimate technological progress.
To maximise the full use of the latest models of AI, one has to recognise the limitations. I learned that it is like a child in which you have to give it specific instructions to do exactly as you want it to do. But, don’t expect it to do more complex tasks because it’s not there yet. It’s a literal child.
Dumb as a rock and outright fucking lies sooooo much! Hahahha
Maybe it is human? Lol
I was talking with a coworker Friday laughing at the absurd confidence which it lies and you show it receipts and it responds “oh yes you’re right I was excluding that in my response” like fuck off lol
