Shame they didn’t call it “the quest for more money.”
On the first reveal trailer Mel Brooks explained that he already found the money.

Sure, but has he found the more money yet?
What about second money?
Can’t go wrong with seconds on space balls day!
Fair.
I’d rather “Spaceballs 3: The Search for the Lost Sequel”
Spaceballs 2: Somehow Spaceballs Returned
Well, the first movie said the sequel would be Spaceballs 2: The Search for More Money, so I’d go with Spaceballs 3: The Search for Spaceballs 2: The Search for More Money.
That’s a 40 year old joke at this point. I’m pretty sure Mel Brooks has more pride in his work than to repeatedly himself. Unless it was truly funny.
Combing the desert is repeating an old joke too.
If I were to defend it, I’d say that the joke in this case is that they’re still combing the desert 40 years later, which adds a little new humour to it.
Not sure I really want to defend it, though. Can’t say this poster excites me. But it would excite me less if the subtitle were a purely nostalgia driven reference as well.
Nah, if i hear him personally saying “ain’t found shit” for a second time, 40 years older, i will die in peace.
And it needs to be Tim Russ again.
“I may be …… combing the desert again…!!!”, Russ posted, directly referencing his memorable scene from the first Spaceballs.
Lol of course
It’s a setup for a joke with 40 years of payoff.
A lot of his later movies were just repeated jokes from his older ones. Men in Tights reused a bunch of old gags, including the title song, which was “Jews in Space” from the epiloge of History of the World Part 1.
Amazing how many strong opinions exist for something we’ve got no clue how they’re doing it
I’m worried, too. But this nonsense about how it sucks? We absolutely don’t know that. At least not yet. Yeesh
You can’t deny it is pretty disheartening that they went with a literal copy-paste of a scene from the first movie as a poster. Pure nostalgia bait.
Yes, we have no idea what the movie will be like, but this particular poster is definitely an example of a product being done for all the the wrong reasons. Whether it reflects on the movie itself or just the marketing department is another matter.
I mean… that’s true. But it’s a MARKETING poster, put together by the marketing team - not the writers or creatives on the movie. Its intent is to get people to remember the original so they come to see this one. It’s not supposed to be a high concept art piece. They’d be stupid not to lean into nostalgia.
What matters is the final film, and if it does the same thing.
You can’t deny it is pretty disheartening
I… do not agree. A poster that triggers nostalgia? It tells me nothing about the project.
It might be shitty, it might be fantastic.
Welcome to movie criticism of the new millenium.
Going by History of the World sequel, I’ll wait for the reviews.
Aye, forgot about that. Good call.
It’s just so unnecessary
Why? New star wars new spoof.
I was not expecting all the angry people. Isn’t this like the second sequel he’s ever done?
Well i dont know about you guys but i am hopeful, theres plenty of material that wasnt covered in the first spaceballs, and thats not including the new disney sequels.
Wait till its out before i judge.Remember when the combed tge desert and people found that funny? Anyway, here is the same thing.
The comb thing was funny in the literal joke sense. It was a joke, subverting expectations, playing off a pun, and had prop/visual comedy, too. It was solid if silly.
This cover though … this is just stupid nostalgia bait.
Nostalgia bait works.
WE AIN’T FOUND SHIT!
HAHAHAH
The first time I saw this movie that line made me laugh so hard I almost hyperventilated.
It was so out of the blue and funny!
Don’t watch it in cinemas. It is pure nostalgiaslop. Vote with your wallet and go see new movies instead. If you are curious, use alternative methods to watch it instead.
They hated him because he told them the truth.
The movie is out?
Typing this last to apologize in advance, my response turned into a bit of a rant. I’m gonna leave it as is, tho.
No, but it is yet another sequel of a movie/franchise that’s had no activity for at least 10 years. Just like the new Naked Gun, Star Wars, Gladiator, Meet the Parents, Scary Movie, Toy Story, Shrek, Indiana Jones, The Devil Wears Prada, etc. Hollywood keeps making more stuff of established movies, many of which do not need a(nother) sequel, and I am sick and tired of it. And I’m not alone, but I do seem to be rather rare in actually doing something against it.
A few years ago, I saw an amazing movie called Juror #2 with a friend. It was within the first week of release in our country, but we were in a rather small room which wasn’t even full yet. You know what was drawing a crowd? Gladiator II. Gladiator is an amazing movie, that does not need a fucking sequel. Now I’ve read some rumours that they are making a third one. I hate that everything good is being franchised to death, and I cannot for the life of me understand why so many people put up with it.
Live action Shrek
I knew it. I’m surrounded by assholes!
Keep firing, assholes!
Guys they’re obviously parodying the Dinsey star wars reboot by reusing the same jokes /s
What about history of the world part 2? Jews in space!
They actually did that as a Hulu series a few years ago.
And they shouldn’t have.
I was so incredibly disappointed :(
Marjorie Taylor Greene is already writing that.
I didn’t think we had much iconic sci-fi to parody these days.
Hell, if they just focused on the SW sequels, I’d consider that enough.
The sw sequels are already self parodying.
The true joke here is that Spaceballs 2 will be the best Star Wars sequel since Star Wars Episode 6.
Somehow, Palpy my balls itch
Tough call, most of it really sucks anymore, so I guess it’s easy to parody?
(That said, there’s been a LOT of sucky sci-fi forever, so…)
Whats even to parody at this point?
Pass
If the new Naked Gun was any indication, this will not go well.
The new Naked Gun was great for the most part. Just as stupid as the other three swinging away with the dad jokes and sight gags.
