Well duh, the janitor actually moves around. My high school PE teacher rode a golf cart out to the track to make us run laps. He was a rotund man and could not do a single lap.

I remember my football coach being the shape of a 6’5" meatball. He used to make us do “burns” in the gym which was basically lift the weight I tell you to ask fast as I tell you to until I tell you not to and swap with your spotter. Then we would have to push the weighted sleds down the field where he would stand at the end zone behind us with a bat. We were to push the sled down faster than he could rub with the bat to get us. Fortunately for us his “running” was more like what you do to shimmy a refrigerator out of the cabinets around it. He did get us one time and we found out it was a plastic bat but the thing still fucking hurt.

My PE teacher in HS was fit, buff and flexible.

Dude would sit on the ground and show up everyone touching his toes and leaning around.

The rarity of personal fitness enthusiast PE teachers in public ed is mostly due to defunding, especially in places like the US. They do exist (and are effectively donating their time, because they’re enthusiasts) but the typical “PE teacher” is more like a longterm substitute whose qualifications are limited to playing a sport in their teenage years.

IME you can tell when a school has no real PE teachers by how many male teachers at the school call each other “coach.”
