It is remarkable how simple the stock market really is:
No AI = line goes down
More AI = line goes up
It is lucky noone is exploiting that simplicity.
More AI + blockchain = breaking the economy
It is lucky noone is exploiting that simplicity.
Yes. If anyone unethical figured that out, who kmows what could happen!?
Probably because google can be held liable for lies that gemeni shits out in search results now.
And 99% of googles searches came from reddit.
And 99% of reddit is just bots and ai slop now.
Not to mention reddit was the best platform to create a lie that google presents as fact. The subreddit trueanon convinced google that brace beldon could dunk on a regulation basketball hoop for months.
…good
Reddit isn’t coming back from where they’ve taken themselves. Their crappy UI you can’t opt out of, exclusive Reddit only app, algorithmic content recommendations force feeding rage bait for clicks. Account level bans on suspicion of having a previously banned account. Nothing fun about reddit anymore.
You can’t even search a subreddit inside Reddit on a desktop PC anymore. They destroyed themselves.
But spez got his payday, which is all that counts.
The wrong co founder killed himself years ago.
The ban just because i used a vpn is crazy there. I’m taking refuge here at lemmy
I personally think they may be having an issue with AI content. As in slop is pushing into the platform and it makes it hard to be used as training data for other entities.
Because other AI models are “good” at reddit style comments (pithy, self important, etc…etc…) those AI models will be used to making posts/comments there. Continuing the slop fest but making it worse for other LLMs. If that was going to be their revenue stream, it gets worse as time goes on.
Yes good observation… it’s becoming a photocopy of a photocopy of a photocopy of a photocopy of a photocopy of…
That’s what I’m thinking as well. Surely someone near the top is recognizing how rapidly the slop is overtaking everything. Reddit’s singular strength since the beginning is that it’s human powered, and that the human mods (problematic as they are) do a better job of removing garbage than any automated system ever could.
That’s fucking awful. I expected them to intentify it but they’re just breaking basic functions. That site’s going downhill fast it’s sad to see it go because I have fond memories but ultimately we have to move on. There’s a brighter future ahead of us and it doesn’t involve these awful corporations.
I just don’t even look at it anymore. Nothing of value it is ruined.
So I’m not crazy, I thought i was doing something wrong! Why on earth would you get rid of a search?! I mean probably for people using desktop mode on their phone to get around their silly bull shit but still.
Google’s AI summaries have reduced traffic to websites from the search results page
Oh, that’s just delicious. Talk about being hoisted by one’s own petard.
Funny to think the summaries are often completely wrong because some asshat 7 years ago was wrong about something on Reddit (can you imagine?) but now the whole thing is infested with bots posting AI comments so now it’s just AI comments feeding AI summaries
It’s an ouroboros of shit
Reddit is small fry to Google. They don’t give a fuuuuuuuck.
Reddit is only usable if you use RES and the old interface. RES/flag to block anyone that has over 1m karma as they are a reposter/power mod/spammer/etc. Then filter all the main pages out of your feed.
After that point its work just to keep your feed free of shill broth and obvious bot ads/rage bait…
I have one account left as they aren’t very good at blocking once you figure out their game. I keep that around to keep tabs on the very small niche subs I’m active in.
This feels like banging a low-track hooker with 4 condoms layered on
I used to do old.reddit/RES and list of subs I wanted to follow to lurk, but then reddit killed off old.reddit for people who aren’t logged in this week.
And the regular reddit interface looks so ugly with how little content it shows in comparison. Switched to a redlib instance and set UI to wide and compact, but still miss RES with old.reddit. But, not enough to login with an account to use reddit.
On Android I was using Stealth just to get feed of subs I’m interested in, but it is dead now because it relied on old.reddit to retrieve stuff. And it hasn’t been updated to work with redlib. So I’ve just been using redlib in browser.
I still can access old not logged in which is interesting considering all I’m hearing on here. I’m not doubting but why am I getting around it?
And I agree, the reg interface is hot garbage, idk who could use that seriously. I can only use Lemmy “old” or I wouldn’t be on here. Be like Craigslist, don’t mess with something that works, right?
I don’t do mobile so I have no opinion there. My phone is a phone and SMS. Might use it to look up store hours if I’m not home. In fact in town I never have it on me, drives friends/family/work insane.
As for having an account I get ya, they have perm banned at least 40 of mine and the new system is effective, sort of. I have one active right now, its more to see if I could get around it and I did. I have 3 or 4 other ideas I would like to try if I was motivated and I’m not…
Oh I have a thought on forcing to the new UI, I have had to replace www. with old. on some links. Give it a try?
Here’s a reddit link of other reddit people talking getting login prompt if they try to use old.reddit.
https://www.reddit.com/r/help/comments/1v1ynz6/oldredditcom_taking_me_directly_to_login_page/
Oh I wasn’t doubting its happening. I was wondering why I can still access .old when logged out?
And with that link I replace “www” with “old” and it goes to the old UI.
Maybe its RES? My plugins? I highly doubt both, but its weird.
I have RES too. Maybe cookie? I do have my browser delete cookies on exit.
No on this login in its all generic for browsing, thats maybe why. I’ll try my other machines/logins to see if it follows.
Stealth is still working for me. Its slowly breaking down, but i can still scroll me favorite subs. Currently use reddit (web scraping) as the source
What happened for me was the regular method stopped working so I was using the web scraping method for a few weeks, but then that stopped working completely. Does old.reddit still work for you on your internet?
That was when the web scraping method stopped working for me on Stealth.
old reddit would not come up for me at all on a cloud browser on a vpn for a few days–but today it does for some reason. (Still won’t let me log in.)
eta: spoke too soon; it just kicked me out
Doesnt even show old.reddit as a possible source. Only reddit, web scraping or teddit instances
Web scraping relies on old.reddit. Pops up when you select it.
Damn. My account you’d claim was a bot. 18 years old, 2,000,000+ Karma, and gilded several times. I left because of the APIpocalypse. I also used to mod r/CTCD.
Them blocking old reddit finally got me to bother getting redirect working (To redlib) in URLCheck. Fuck em, the experience is actually better so far.
what would be telling is if u/SPEZ gets ousted and most of us get unbanned when they purge out the AI mods.
Yeah, I know, “wishful thinking…”
To be able to shitpost like good ol’ days… sigh
I’m not banned, I just stopped going.
I’m not banned, I deleted my account 6 years ago.
Based.
Same I don’t even browse it. Imma get a lot of shit for this but I use LLMs to do all the finding for me, noai duckduckgo when I want real search, and I won’t even click a Reddit link anymore. Useless. Haven’t missed it tbh. Was a waste of time anyways.
A good chunk of us are here because of Reddit crashouts, and this was the most similar platform. I want my account back, but purely on principle at this point.
I wear my account bans like a badge of honor. My only regret is not changing all my comments to say gibberish afterwards.
A few of my accounts I was the end points for commonly googled questions.
Zero fucks about lost accounts…there’s communities I miss engaging. That’s it.
Niche communities are all that I miss from Reddit.
my niche was the Minecraft subreddits, and that is sadly like 80% of the community right there. There’s a Instance here, but it’s like moving from NYC to East Bumfuck Long Island. (and don’t even get me started on the Hermitcraft Subreddit)
I thought about selling mine to spammers on principal at this point, haha.
Eh, besides a handful of specific subs that didn’t take good root here, I don’t miss it.
Reddit is an AI training platform.
IANAL but wouldn’t banning anonymous users effectively give reddit exclusive legal rights to the content posted?
Depends on the quality of the content I suppose. I wouldn’t put it past them to try and make that argument.
Depends on the quality of the content
I mean clearly it doesn’t lolololol
