Edit: For context, @db0@lemmy.dbzer0.com discovered that the developer of Tesseract had discretely banned numerous instances and disguised it as a server error. This included more heavily leftist instances, but also blahaj.zone. More recently, it was discovered that they had also been suppressing individual users, phrases, and communities that criticize power tripping on fedi.
Needless to say, I implore non blahaj.zone users to drop the Tesseract client (support for the client has already been dropped for blahaj). So called “liberals” like this who call out “extremism on both sides” are an insult to the values they claim to be upholding.
I did not get this at first. The only thing i found by searching online was an ocr program, which do nt think was in any way related to lemmy. Only after this post i found out that tesseract is also a same named lemmy client.
Tesseract is a web UI for Lemmy. It was one of the options for interfaces on blahaj zone until recently.
This UI designer decided to sneak malware into his UI to keep you from seeing instances, websites, and users he personally disagrees with.
I’m surprised Ada didn’t find this at the same time db0 did for the same reason - whole instance shadow ban, maybe she dropped it before the ban?
As far as I’m aware, the change that would have banned the entire instance was pushed in an update to tesseract, that had not yet been installed to blahaj. Ada mentioned she was waiting for a response from the developer before taking any action. From what I’ve heard she was aware at the same time and she’s in regular contact with other instance admins.
The delay was in response not knowledge as far as I can tell.
