I doubt this will take off like, say, GlassDoor, but if it catches on, could be an interesting resource to make oneself feel better. Orders of magnitude more data are needed for this to be useful.

A hiring manager told me when she fills a position, it automatically sends the email to the other candidates. It’s not a human touch.

I was going to write “this depends on the ATS used” but I thought that was a safe assumption. Seems not so!

My point was, any minute you spend fretting about a machine not pretending to behave humanely with you, or reporting them for not pretending to behave humanely, is a minute of your life you’ll never get back.

Just assume your application was rejected after x weeks - depending on your field of work - and move on with your life. Companies will never be humane.

I guess? But imagine if enough people took a couple minutes to post about how organization XYZ sucks, and (because the stock markets are irrational vibes based) that caused their stocks to drop a few points. That’s the only thing they care about. I’m willing to put in a few minutes if it might emotionally harm an asshole.

I think you and OP are viewing the problem differently.

I think you’re saying “Don’t worry about it when they ghost you”, which is fine. I agree with that sentiment. I don’t worry about it when companies ghost me.

OP, however, is saying a company’s tendency to ghost applicants can be wielded against them to discourage the practice. By crowdsourcing information about which companies put in the minimal effort to send out a simple rejection message, some pressure may be exerted on companies that fail to do so. Looking bad on Glassdoor/Yelp/whatever can lead to some companies deciding to change their practices. Not because the company suddenly wants to do the right thing, but because they are now being publicly shamed for their bad behavior. And that could affect their bottom line
