Dogs generally don’t enjoy being hugged, but they tolerate it because they love people.
Mine has warmed up to it and now will occasionally lie her head on you in return when you (gently) hug her. It’s heart-melting.

I’m very affectionate but that doesn’t mean to anyone who tries to hug me lol
I like hugs. But after meeting a few people that don’t like physical touch, I try not to touch anyone. Not even handshakes cuz the pandemic ruined those.
I like hugs but except with a few people who I know quite well I always ask first (and obviously respect their decision).
I’m pretty indifferent, so I just let other people initiate hugs if they want to.
Like I tell my mom, you asked if you could hug me but you didn’t say anything about me hugging you back.
