I was going to comment on a post today, and found out I’d been banned from mop@quokk.au. Apparently it happened awhile ago.
Not much of a reason, no real evidence given. The mod didn’t include a screenshot, link, or even quoted text, so I’m not sure which specific interaction led to this. Basically this is just thought policing. Hilarious considering that the community claims to be:
free of the “ML” influence of instances like lemmy.ml and lemmygrad.
Also, even if the accusation is true it doesn’t break any community rules:

There is only one mod of mop@quokk.au, so this isn’t just a vague/general example. @lumpenproletariat@quokk.au is a PTB.
I remember commenting quite a bit on that community, though mostly because it consistently posted coal that didn’t make sense but had lots of upvotes regardless. The main mod then proceeded to look for any excuse to ban me off the platform and essentially admitted that they’re building an echo chamber and don’t like any dissenting voices even when it’s coming from the rare anti-liberal position they allegedly agree with.
You’ve probably been done a favor with this tbh, stay away and let kids have their fun

Your post history and moderation history speak for itself. YDM.
More vague generalized implications, still lacking anything specific. You might as well just say overtly that you support abuses of power.

Case in point!

I’m lost. Why does everyone hate this person?
It’s because their political views are explicitly anti-anarchist, yet they moderate a supposedly “anarchist” community on SJW. E.g.:

Hmm, the biggest problem I have with socialism is that you end up with government committees deciding who gets access to basic needs like food, water and medical care, when, where and how much. Attempts to plan out fair distribution for an entire country become brittle and inflexible, and result in scarcity and waste because human life is not static. Well-intentioned socialist governments become authoritarian out of the desire to control the behavior of the population in order to stabilize the plan, but the efforts to control inevitably create more instability.
So, just another liberal sjw troll
larping as an anarchist. They aren’t even pro-socialism.I believe you’re referring to ananarchy@sh.itjust.works … and that you have reading comprehension issues.
That is obviously a joke community that makes basically anyone a mod who the original creator feels like making a mod in the moment. It’s a bit like some chatrooms back in the 90s that would just hand out mod powers to whoever. I never asked for mod powers, and I make no claim to anarchy as a personal philosophy.
Do you make a habit of not looking past surface details? Did you even bother to look at the community info, where it says “everyones a mod”?
I do claim responsibility for the community tagline “because anarchy is too mainstream now”.
How much of your negative opinion about me
So, just another liberal sjw troll larping as an anarchist.
…is based on this one detail? And do you ever consider that you might be reaching conclusions based on bad assumptions? I am absolutely not “larping” as anything.
Ok, I’m sorry for making that mistake.
Amazing, thank you.
A reasonable question that is unlikely to receive a reasonable answer.
considering I’ve consistently seen shit takes from you whenever you open your mouth, I’m going to say you deserved it.
Yeah, this isn’t PTB, this is moderation working as intended.

What was the comment you wanted to publish?
I can intersect it for you, if think it’s relevant agitprop.I appreciate the offer, but I’m not really interested in attempting to dodge a ban for the sake of a comment on a meme post. It was just the catalyst for this.
You wouldn’t be dodging a ban since I’d be commenting on your behalf. Unless you think the ban is deserved?
Unless you think the ban is deserved?
I think the ban is the ban, and that my conduct is and will continue to be more mature than these PTBs.
Then I’ll maturely assume the comment wasn’t agitprop and carry on.
YDI
For what reason, exactly?
An accusation was made in the ban, but nothing was provided to substantiate it. What you seem to be saying is that the accusation itself is enough to justify the ban, which is akin to a witch hunt, where the accused is presumed to be guilty and is then punished for having been accused, with no evidence given and no recourse.
I was not given the basic courtesy of a warning, or even a message from the moderator, and a 73-year ban is effectively permanent, which is extreme when no actual rules were broken. Basically, I was banned for thought crime, because the mod didn’t like what I said. The judgment was carried out summarily and with no consideration. This is kangeroo court nonsense.
The last time I experienced similar behavior was on lemmygrad.ml.
you consistently post shitlib takes, and you are aggressively anti-anarchist. if you really want me to post proof, I can do that. your posting history is public, after all.
I think you should probably go ahead and post the proof, especially since they are apparently the mod of an anarchist community on sjw lmao.

Fine example of Lemmy turning into federated silos and echo chambers just like their ancestors sailed from on Reddit.

In a vacuum, an idealistic world in which everyone is acting in good faith, this seems like a good idea.
In practice, any unmoderated internet space that allows arbitrary user content quickly becomes overrun with adbots, to the point that the platform is unusable for everyone else. Leaving it up to the individual to block them just becomes an exponentially growing game of whac-a-mole.

You would spend all of your time just blocking bots. Even if you personally would not be turned away by that, most people would, so the platform would be effectively empty.
probably based on off community comments, because mods unfortunately look at those.
Looking at the history it seems @Deceptichum@quokk.au banned them for their comments in this thread, not even one of their many shitty comments already on their profile before but their comments in that thread.

Yikes. So what you’re saying is that a difference in political opinion is justification for retaliatory action. That is fantastically authoritarian.
What exactly was “shitty” about any of those comments?
Why do you have a problem with anarchists banning you from anarchist communities exactly? Do you think you should be able to say what you like wherever you go? Quokk.au isn’t a freeze peach instance. They have no obligation to let you visit and shit on the floor.

I think that I haven’t broken any rules, and that I’ve essentially been judged under some secret law, and the punitive measure was delivered effectively in secret with no communication or recourse, which is the kind of behavior one expects from fascists and authoritarians.
Basically I think I’m the victim of abject hypocrites. People who claim to be ideologically against abuses of authority obviously approve of such abuses when aligned with their personal politics.
It’s very telling to me that so many people here are functionally behaving as if the mod were right because they’re the mod, which is to say “might makes right”.

I think that if you’re going to build an echo chamber, you should have explicit rules identifying it as such, to the effect of “Only approved ideologies are allowed to be expressed here, and all others are forbidden.” That way you at least have to consciously process that you are building an echo chamber, and you put up a warning sign so that reasonable, cooperative and tolerant people will know to stay away.
Basically I think I’m the victim of abject hypocrites.
no you’re not. one of the most important foundations of anarchism is the concept of freedom of association. we have decided we no longer wish to associate with you. your own personal freedoms have not been affected by this decision.

Then even more PTB.
