As clear as day that Trump plans to be dictator for life. At least there is a certain biological limit. Bad news is that those behind the regime can build upon the destroyed rule of law and institutions to maintain the regime beyond Trump.

Idk about that. I think people around him are propping him up but there are no avenues to this goal. He heard the idea somewhere and he loves it but it’s not happening.

Don’t take the bait. They want unrest and violence so he justify Marshall Law.

I can’t tell you wath to do. However, if you have a democratic socialist, really look at their views.

semantic note: the term you’re looking for is Martial Law

Marshall Law is a character from the Tekken franchise modeled after Bruce Lee

If he runs, Obama should run, with AOC as his VP. When he wins, he can resign, and AOC becomes Prez, and appoint him Chief Justice of the newly expanded 29 seat SCOTUS.

    I wonder.

Does this mean that one of the Trump kids will run?

Does he think he can legally run again?

Is he trying to start WW3 so he can stay pres?

Is he admitting that he’s going to change the law so that he can run again?

Is this all a joke that’s not funny at all?

Why did he try to make himself skinnier? We all know he’s a bowling ball with toothpick arms and legs.

I know that time has passed by in the blink of an eye because we don’t want to remember what a nightmare this all has been but it’s not 6 month into his first term anymore.

Why do we play these coy ass games? Do you LIKE this shit?

No, he means he will run. He will ignore the law and he will run and he will cheat and he will win and he will kill anyone who disagrees. He is rounding up people off the street and he is pushing big tech to create the greatest panopticon the world has ever seen and he is invading other countries and claiming our destiny is to rule the world. They built concentration camps.

I need you to snap the fuck out of this “he can do that! It’s illegal! The courts will stop him.” Mentality.

      One of the Trump kids?

On my first trip to Las Vegas, I was walking through the lobby of the second rate hotel I was staying in at about 3 pm in the afternoon, and I heard a voice that sounded a bit familiar. I poked my head into the lounge, and there was Frank Sinatra, JR, doing a free set, at 3 in the afternoon, in a second rate hotel, with about 3 tables watching.

That’s the Trump spawn - nobody cares about them. MAGA is a classic cult of personality, and once he assumes room temperature, there will be NO replacement, by a Trump, or anyone else. Plenty of them will claim that they deserve to take the helm, but his followers won’t accept ANY of them.

When Trump croaks, MAGA, and the entire right, will fall apart. It will be at least two election cycles before they even start to get their shit together.

The Dems should be preparing for this moment, and should have a plan to exploit it ruthlessly when it happens.

the only plan the Democrats have is to continue 90% of the things Trump has done and hand-wringing over the remaining 10% in the name of “national unity”

MAGA may fall apart but all those xenophobic, racist, transphobic, ableist etc etc pieces of shit with the civic and political literacy of a doorknob won’t go away.

In the US there are people dumb enough to storm the Capitol because their leader told them to.

Even if Trumps croaked tomorrow, it would be a matter of time before the sore starts festering again.

I’ve thought of this, but ultimately think it would be a bad idea. I hate Obama, but he’s likely the best president I’ve had in my lifetime, and might have the best chance of winning. However even if he wins its still setting a precedent that presidents can serve more than 2 terms and will embolden both sides into thinking that the executive branch doesn’t need to follow the law.

It will bite the public in the ass down the road if it happens, Trump has a cult of personality that most presidents don’t have so he has gotten away with things most presidents haven’t. If we allow a democrat to also get away with that much it’ll be the new standard and the republican after Obama will also just do whatever the fuck they want with even less restrictions.

The situation with Trump is that he would be running as the VP and the presidential candidate would concede the presidency to Trump. So all that would really need to be done is to have Obama as the VP, this doesn’t mean he will take the presidency in the same way and likely wouldn’t. It would just be there to show the magats how dumb of an idea this all is and of course get some good clips of Obama directly debating trump on the news in a tan suit.

Doesn’t the 12th amendment prevent that? Because having served two terms makes Trump constitutionally ineligible for the office of President after his term ends, the 12th should make him consequently ineligible for the office of the vice presidency.

Now getting him into the line of succession, and having a few people above him resign, it’s convoluted, but probably isn’t expressly illegal.

It’s a legal grey area. He can’t run for presidency but he can run for VP. It’s unclear legally what happens if for instance a two term president becomes VP and then the current president steps down or dies. The law of succession dictates he would become president but the 12th amendment dictates that he can’t be president. It’s a legal grey area.

Before 1951, presidents used to be able to serve more than two terms. But then the 22nd amendment was ratified so now 2 is the max. But trump and the supreme court and a majority of congress dgaf about the constitution soooooo

I’m down to watch it play out, if Trump attempts to make it a thing.

I expect the biggest barrier would be getting Michelle Obama on board. Word is she HATED her time as First Lady, but now that they’re kids are more grown (seems like they should be done with undergrad college by now?), it might be more feasible.

The way trump is thinking of achieving this third term is running as VP so essentially Obama could do the same but just not have their presidential elect step down. As nice as it would be to have a woman, gay, minority president I’m not sure the US is ready right now. They need a well spoken, quick witted, and vetted old white dude. They keep picking candidates that the American populace at large just aren’t ready for, someone who can swing the vote hard with all these folks leaving the maga movement.

Seems a bit late now, making a novel country out of guns and KJV’s for lolz isn’t as funny once it escapes the lab.

Him winning was what got me interested in politics to begin with.

Was getting nostalgic for Dubya the other day:

There’s an old saying in Tennessee - I know it’s in Texas, probably in Tennessee - that says, fool me once, shame on - shame on you. Fool me - you can’t get fooled again.

      How naive we were.

    • Tbh, I’d rather they get their rhetoric from a king James version than some of the newer interpretations.

There’s a lot of word changes between them that alter context to some things.

They don’t actually read any edition, they just get soundbytes from some middle aged angry white man who hasn’t read the older editions either and really wants to push their “women are subservient, being gay is wrong, racial division is good actually, dont fight back against authority” narrative.

Why should they get their interpretation from an apologetic translation written in the 1600s? There are many better versions with more accurate translations and include so many things that have been found since then.

If the context in the KJV was wrong, why shouldn’t it be updated?

It’s more that the US is just drunk on ‘the bible’ which seems likely linked to the entire country being carpet bombed in little 66 book KJV’s as a social experiment around the 1800’s and they just can’t stop rewriting it as they need a constant flow of novel Jesuses. This week it’s Mundane Markan Jesus duct taped to some bits from the Pauline corpus for lolz, The Gospel of Bart Ehrman for the masses that stopped going to masses but still need to cling to a personal Jesus.

          I don’t even think Bart’s aware of what’s he’s doing, it’s completely bizarre.

If you hear the meme ‘most scholars agree’ alongside some claim from the SBL, run for the hills.
