Danielle Smith is a traitorous piece of shit and should be rotting in a fucking cell for the rest of her miserable and pathetic life
I’m glad there were enough thoughtful people to vote for sanity and not let maple maga win last time, saw the shitshow in usa and chose wisely. One system tries to help the majority, based on data and what works irl in other places to help the most people per cost, all boats rise and such, and the other system rules by what the leader says, don’t question what they say, don’t fact check, obey or punishment. Obviously Canada goes with the healthy system most of the time and passed healthcare, LGBTQ+ rights and ended cannabis prohibition for the whole country, while usa is held back by the unhealthy systems regularly and the damage shows.
“I love my country so much that I support a financial attack on it!”
Conservatives. Should be called the Disagreement Party: Disagree, til death. Your death.
Conservatives are maple maga and we should all remember this next election.
🍁True North Strong and Free 🍁
Yeah, not really understanding what they’re conserving here…
Canadian conservatives vote conservative because they’re conservatives and they’re voting. It has nothing to do with ideology and everything to do with conditioning. Much like republicans.
That’s true. The US Republicans seem to be riddled with people that are anti the republic in both its founding and general concepts of what a republic is.
It’s just a dead brand killed off by Mulroney in the 80s.
The current party is just a mix of Western Right -wing MAGA types that were the Reform, Alliance parties out of Alberta.
It used to be called the Reform party.
The Regressive Cut-Services Party.
And, as usual…Conservatives can’t seem to decide whose side they’re on.
they are always on the side of the USA.
That’s who pays the bills…
Mostly because it’s a neo-monarchist kleptocracy. Wealth and Power are distributed according to inherent, not achieved, merit. Know Your Place, peon.
Mostly because they come to the party of years of working in ironically named “think tanks” funded by US right wing foundations like Koch and Atlas.
Example: Jamil Jirvani. Appointed senior fellow for Diversity and Empowerment at the Macdonald-Laurier Institute, a conservative, libertarian think tank affiliated with the US Atlas Network, in 2020. Buddy of JD Vance, they ran a fake charity in Ohio together.
After that he got fired from Bell Media for covid misinformation and insisting on misgendering Demi Lovato. Then he pulled the race card claiming he was fires because he was black.
Since January 2026, he has been in Washington involved in the trade negotiations, which is why that ended up being the shitshow it is.
Bowmanville -Oshawa loves him, now they can eat a big steaming bowl of tariffs.
Conservatives are on the side of fascism like always.
I’m sure that’s part of it but think it’s more that they just have to be contrary. They have no policy position on anything except to disagree with whatever Carney is doing. If he capitulated and signed a crappy trade deal they’d be saying he’s weak and should have stood his ground.
Some of them, for sure! I learned from covid that about 10% of the population is contrarian, and though that overlaps somewhat with conservatism, it’s also prevalent among self-described “antiauthoritarians” who are into alternative health and politics (they think). This pans out with the similar percentage of antimaskers in 1917 and during the smallpox inoculations.
They’re only ever on their own side.
Not all of them. Some sure loves to vote against their own interests.
This is one of the prominent definitions of ideology: thinking in a way that allows you to participate in your own oppression.
I’d say most.
Unless, you’re a rich, white, cis, straight, male bigot.
Some sure loves to vote against their own interests.
Pierre Poilievre threw his own father under the bus fighting gay marriage.
Pierre Poilievre threw his own father under the bus
That’s his father. It doesn’t affect Peter. They’re two different people, so why should he care?
(If you need a sarcasm tag on this, I weep for your teachers)
Peter Rabbithair.
Actually, I think it’s “hare hair” (“rabbit hair” would be “Poillapin”).
I’m watching For All Mankind and enjoy the portrayal of this process.
Tap for spoiler
The president and First Gentleman are closeted and in a marriage of convenience… and she still institutes ‘don’t ask don’t tell’ during the '90s while mourning a life sacrificed to power.
They love speaking with both sides of their mouths.
If you grew up in the more political churches you’ll recognize the coded language they use. It’s sounds like benign religious platitudes but they specifically allude to stories and concepts with charged connotations.
It’s scarier than people expect… https://streamable.com/2yj2tj (link expires after 48 hours so download if you care)
I’ll gladly vote conservative again until the liberals quit trying to criminalize me for property that I’ve legally purchased.
Quit trying to pin mass-shootings on folks who legally obtain firearms when it has been proven time and time again that folks who perpetrate these crimes obtain their firearms illegally.
Nobody find it suspicious that the Tumbler Ridge school shooting was swept under the rug and forgotten about? Even the anti-gun lobby wanted information of the firearms used but alas the RCMP felt the need to keep the information tucked away because it didn’t fit the narrative the feds were pushing.
Not sure what the Liberal party, or guns, have to do with this article.
People who play team politics and pin their identity to certain keystone interests have to bring up their team preferences.
Sure, the Liberals have a misguided and hamfisted approach to gun law. Beliefs that guns are not relevant as a collective risk and opportunity, and that property rights reign over collective safety, are suppressing facts for identity politics.
In Canada we have a lot of long guns. I strongly support responsible hunting weapons. I don’t get choked up about the government mishandling regulation of assault and handguns, just annoyed. You can see this divide in a lot of rod and gun clubs (maybe more so in my local “god and run” club because it’s progressive rural).
Just move the fuck to Florida. We don’t need more stupid in Canada. Ecole Polytechnique and the Quebec City mosque shootings were both with legally purchased guns.
We got a House of Commons and Parliament full of stupid, people with poor attitudes such as yourself are a yet another good reason not to vote liberal.
If the province of Quebec wants to restrict the purchase and sale of firearms then so be it, the federal government is responsible for upholding the criminal code and so far have failed to do so with the catch and release system they have in place now.
Thank you, PC intern.
It’s fun the tangents you go on. I hope it all makes sense to you.
Makes sense to a lot of people, just not any of those who use Lemmy. I’m not the only person tired of the Liberal government, but alas orange-man bad so people are scared to vote for any other party.
There’s more than two parties.
Green and NDP side with the liberals on this topic, if there were a 4th choice that has a chance of winning sure, I’ll vote for them.
That’s just not true, the NDP went after illegal guns and mental health.
Even as far as to increase border security.
