I missed this at the time, but there is nothing to stop you from going to court and getting your name changed.
Absolutely true.
However, that doesn’t mean you can erase your old name from other people’s minds and mouths.
I still have people that call me by my middle name.
I first started using, and requesting that it be used by others, my first name innnnn… . Fuck. I think it was 86? +/- a year, in that range. So, you know, fictional Gaylord from this urban myth is likely to run into similar, and maybe worse because at least I was using a name I was assigned by my parents, which reduced friction a ton both in the family and at school.
But that was forty fucking years ago, and the majority of my family still use my middle name. There were a couple of classmates that took a year or so to switch, and a couple of assholes that refused to and even tried to weaponize it.
And neither of my names is as culturally awkward as Gaylord.
Folks reading this far that might have someone in their life that wants to be called something other than what you’re used to. Be a bro, give them that respect. They’ll value you for it.
Yeah, you never deadname anyone ever. I get it.
I wasn’t attacking you. Sorry if it seemed that way. Was just taking a moment to expand on the idea. I promise, no fuckery or snark, zero intent to imply you would deadname anyone.
Gosh I gave the wrong impression. I was agreeing with you. I have a core philosophy that people have a right to be called what they like to be called. John instead of Jonathon, etc. In also know several people who go by their second name because they don’t like who they were named after.
Gotta love a pleasant misunderstanding lol. I’m right there with you :)
Fake and Gaylord

It’s a strong name with history. Just, times have changed
oh wow, it has been 7 years since that particular fake story?
Thank you for letting me know it’s fake. I’ve never heard of it before, and I was wondering how it turned out lol

But why male models?
Focker!
I know it’s a fake story but imagine:
Plot twist: The individual wanted to transition and be known as LesbianLady.
The parents were Red hot chili Pepper fans
Gaylord Smith:

Nah, that’s Will Ferrell
TIL that Gaylord has been both a given and surname for a long time.
