Will the gate be spinning? Spinning is so much cooler than not spinning.

I’m glad that it’s helmed by someone who’s worked extensively on the original shows. Hopefully it won’t suck too much.

I hope they come back with something more optimistic and upbeat than the needlessly edgy SG:U. I get that drama and conflict are needed, but a main cast that’s constantly fighting gets tiresome really quickly.

SG:U was tapping into BSG’s teenage drama in space.

So look to what current sci-fi shows are popular to see what they’ll shamelessly copy instead.

The thing is… the original series was incredibly melodramatic. There was a constant uptick in drama… but often in a very tongue-in-cheek way. There was no acknowledgment of the ridiculousness of the premise in SG:U, if they took themselves less seriously (and had less high school level drama) it might have been a better show. Unfortunately that wasn’t the algorithm at the time :(

Sadly, I don’t think it’s the current algorithm now either, so this new show still won’t have the feel of the original series or Atlantis.

My hopes / wishes for the new Stargate show:

    • That they remember SG characters care about the wellbeing of creatures regardless of identity and stand up for the underdog. They wrestle with moral dilemmas and work towards a better tomorrow.
    • That they remember that fantastical stories are good when they are grounded in rules (no magical solutions). When puzzles can be solved with the tools available, it’s a good Stargate show.
    • Jokes and campiness make Stargate Stargate; but meeting a 1 joke per minute quota isn’t the way. (Don’t be a Marvel wanna-be)
    • Sell physical media to be purchased

My money is on either her or Picardo being moderately involved. Carter is the obvious choice for the “General”, where Woolsey is a wonderful pick for civilian leadership as he saw significant growth over his character’s appearances. Smart money is on Hewlett appearing for at least a cameo, he’s more impressive in real life than his character, and I bet he’d jump at the chance to reprise a more mature version of his role.

I hope she’s on board at least as a producer or maybe a cameo. She’s got some solid production/directing chops, so it could be incredibly beneficial to have her on.
