Hello, as an audiophile I’m searching for a player with local statistics, I’d like to maintain my datas (listens, favs, etc) locally in my drive and, if possible, sync these infos thru something like Syncthing to another PC. Would be nicer a player that shows these stats in a cool way, similar to streaming services like Spotify.
I keep coming back to Tauonbox. Great player.
I stille wish they released an native version of Musicbee for linux. Great player as well!
Check out strawberry, a fork of clementine. It can track plays favs and stars locally. As well as synch to and from services like musicbrains and last.fm. it’s also great for collection management.
For slick looking displays etc check out tauon. The playlist maker and cover art grid are fun to play with.
Thanks
I use mpd to play music. While this is particularly interesting for things like a home audio setup with a server and multiple devices that can control it, you can also just run it locally on various machines, like I do. Gives a lot of flexibility in terms of UI and so forth, since the frontend is decoupled from the backend.
It looks like there’s a software package — which I have not used — called mpdtrackr which maintains audio statistics for an mpd instance. Its project page explicitly talks about some sort of mechanism for syncing statistics.
Interesting!
I vibe with your quest, but why not use an external scrobbling service?
Do you mean a self-hosted service for a server?
I am specifically referring to what is colloquially known as ‘scrobbling’, though Last.fm kind of owns the term but there are open alternatives and you can in theory host those open alternatives yourself if you are chronically allergic to relying on corporate services. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Last.fm#Scrobbling
I am asking why you wouldn’t simply use Last.FM, or it’s alternatives, where you enter a mutually beneficial relationship in which they do all the work and give you aggregate statistics, and you give them listening statistics that they can use to make money in return.
I suppose I’m allergic to sharing my data with corporations
More serious reply: I prefer to not depend on others on personal stuff that I can maintain by myself, eventually in a smarter and more versatile way.
There are self hosted scrobbling options. The one I’ve heard of is Maloja
Thanks
If you’re looking for something like unwrapped, I don’t think it exists.
For the stats and a nice experience, you’ve got Roon obviously, but that’s kinda pricey
Plex tracks some data and still doesn’t need the syncing since it’s a server based model
I’ve never used it but there’s a foobar2000 alternative for Linux called Deadbeef, that’ll probably do it
I prefer QuodLibet but I’ll check for Deadbeef again, thanks.
If you can make your own plugin I’m pretty sure you’re good with deadbeef.
There’s also MPRIS and e.g. playerctl

There’s no feature parity - deadbeef devs have never intended for it to be an alternative to foobar2000 - but it’s pretty good and versatile and might offer what OP needs.
I had no idea about foobar2000, so I’ll have to take a look.
