I haven’t tried *WRT in this house, but I tried replacing my TP-Link with pfSense and also with OPNSense but neither would get an IP from the ISP. As soon as I switched back to my router (purchased by me, not ISP provided) I immediately got an IP again.
I tried cloning my router’s MAC address and manually entering a static IP, but neither got me an internet connection, so I got annoyed and switched back to my commercial router. I’ve been meaning to try out openWRT but I’m afraid of compromising my mesh setup.
