Every time I think I am special, I find out there are a gazillion people like me.
Mine doesn’t have a way to disable the beep so I opened up the case and de-beeped it by desoldering the piezo.
Hop boy, don’t buy Samsung appliances then! They like to play songs instead of just a beep!
I hate it when people leave time on the microwave like this. It annoys me to no end, much more than the beep.
Mine doesn’t have enough electronics to beep. It does have a literal bell, though.
Is that microwave safe?
As long as it’s not inside the inner box where the tingle beams bounce around.
yeah, but then it’s blinking and i have to press stop to clear the blinking remaining time for the clock to display. I MUST HAVE MY CLOCK. ahem. sorry i don’t have any anals that i need to retent or anything.
i once, i swear once pressed open at such a precise time i did not have to press any other buttons to get to the clock and (and this is the important bit) the microwave made no sound. i mean aside from the door clanging open and me squealing and pooting a little. it felt like i had just pumped exactly twenty moneys and i will never reach such heighths again
Squealing and pooting?
You are a unique person.
i was excited dude what do you do
When I’m excited? God’s honest truth? I rapidly pat my chest with both hands as quickly as possible. I don’t know why.
yeah it was one of those moments where i almost wish i put those creepy wiretaps in the room so at least SOMEONE could have witnessed the high point of my life. i thought about waking the wife up, which would have defeated the point of defeating the alarm, which made me laugh, which actually defeated the point of defeating the alarm. my wife did not wake up, so hey, i didn’t have to share my queso. success!
my settings -> signal off, no?

Just because you can hear it doesn’t mean everyone can. Beeps are interruptive too.
And increasing beeping volume would be good. First beep should be nearly muted. 4th beep should be judging.
my grandfather cant even hear the beeping, let alone if the microwave is running.
Agreed that companies need to lower the note of their beeps to old-man hearing tones.
they make some devices that electrocute you when running and when they’re done, stop.
Also hum of a microwave is fairly easy to tune out.
Appliances should never ever beep, change my mind. What happened to the good old “bing” or “brrrrrrring”?
Beeping makes my skin crawl!
My ADHD brain can barely remember putting something in the microwave. I need the beep to remind myself to check it
It’s probably way cheaper to add a speaker than an actual, physical bell. But I agree. My microwave dings and I’m fine with that.
My microwave has an option to turn off all the beeps, and it’s a landlord special so I imagine others can do the same. Check your model and see if it has that option.
For mine, I literally need to hold down I think the number 3 for 5 seconds. It’s in no way obvious.
Mine doesn’t have any kind of mute option, I checked the manual.
I had one like that. I de-soldered the beeper lolfuckthat
Or make idk, a bamboo rod sound or something calming
Y’all better be clearing the timer so it returns to clock mode afterwards
I’ve said it before, but they should have a time out option of say like 5 or 10 minutes, when it automatically goes back to standby.
I agree, but they don’t.
Our new one has the option to not have a clock and just be blank so it’s extra annoying when somebody leaves the timer on and the screen stays on blinking ‘cook time’.
Do you actually use your microwave to find out what time it is?
Uh, yeah, it’s got a built-in clock.
Mine does too but even though it (and my oven) tell the time I look at my watch, phone, or the dedicated clock in my living room
it’s not just about the microwave returning to clock function. It’s also about the microwave being returned to it’s normal standby state so that pushing the buttons functions as expected for the next person.
- I don’t wear a watch, especially not while I’m busy in the kitchen
- My phone is usually on my pocket, and it’s easier to just turn my head than to reach into my pocket, pull out my phone, and turn it on. And also wash my hands if, again, I’m doing kitchen stuff in the kitchen.
- The microwave is in the kitchen, which is a different room than the living room.
Huh. That’s fair.
You sound way too reasonable. What’s the catch?
My microwave and oven clocks are never correct because I don’t use them.
Does your stove not have a clock? They’re fairly standard now
Mine does.
Even within a few hours of setting it, it’s usually off by at least a few hours. My microwave is usually pretty accurate to within a few minutes, even after days.
Not while it’s running.
Neither does the microwave, while it’s running.
More kitchen devices need to follow what ricecookers are doing and play a charming melody when finished.
Your rice cookers have electronics in them?
Horrors beyond human understanding.
My sometimes lying rice cooker does a high pitched beeping. So high pitched my husband who can’t hear high pitched sounds can’t hear it.
As far as I can tell thats a Korean appliance thing, so maybe try an LG or Samsung microwave.
Japan likes that stuff too. As far as I can tell if you really wanted to you could get pretty much everything in your house to play music at you.
That sounds like some nightmares I’ve had.

My previous microwave oven had a mute button. That thing stayed permanently silent. Unfortunately I have never found a new model that can be muted.
Cue a Technology Connection video about how old microwave ovens were better.
I just can’t wait for microwave to have an integration with AI. I just need another internet connected device that can recommend a nice laxative after scanning what it just cooked. Not only that but it could integrate with my smart fridge and make sure that it orders food that is just about to expire from Instacart. And with its partnership with Doordash, the microwave could just stop working and order a replacement meal for me.
…said no one ever.
Many if not most microwaves can be muted, but they usually don’t have a special button for it.
It’s often some secret button combination. READ YOUR MICROWAVE’S MANUAL.
Every microwave can be silenced. Sometimes it requires a soldering iron.
A shotgun also works well.
I’ve got a newer (5yo) Maytag that has a silent mode that you can choose either with end beep or without. It resets every power outage which is my only gripe.
Of course there is one.
Thanks for looking it up
There is a mute function.
No there isn’t.
Mine has it and is currently muted
Specifically bought my current microwave because of the mute feature. The old one would continue to beep even after opening the door. The new one is always muted.
Same, but mine doesn’t save it on power loss and it’s jaring.
Where’s the challenge in that?
Then there’s me LOSING MY DAMN MIND because I can’t figure out how to clear the one second off of the microwave and being INFURIATINGLY MAD at the jerk who left one second on the microwave.
Hit start?
Then the bomb goes off. Fool.
You hit clear.
Do you set the timer to 61s as well?
newb. I save the world by stopping it on 0:00 before the screen goes away.
