Nietzsche wrote, “We often refuse to accept an idea merely because the way in which it has been expressed is unsympathetic to us.” - Human, All Too Human

    Might be a different translation

God, I hate when someone has the exact same opinion as me but they express it in such an annoying and obnoxious way that I lowkey don’t want to agree. Everyone is dumber than me, and that’s why they’re stupid enough to do that. Frankly, they’re just copying my opinions.

You’re right. I, as the most superior person in this thread, have a duty to set a good example by keeping a respectful tone. I 100% agree with exactly what you said.

Bruh! Im with you on this for sure! Its that weird feeling when someone ridin the exact same wave as you, but they’re just flappin around on their board.

Its like Im ridin this clean, glassy idea-barrel, feelin all enlightened and tubular, and suddenly this dude drops in behind me on their moms foam board and suddenly starts shouting the same thing, but in the like most uncoolest way possible. And Im just sittin there like, “Dude… why you gotta make our shared thought like that?”

Honestly, it does feel like they just catchin my swell instead of finding their own. Whole thing just tastes like sunscreen and feels like sand in the wetsuit, right my man.

Or when they say something you agree with for 80% of their comment and then at the very end take a hard turn into something distasteful. You were so close!

There are some valid reasons I can entertain that 9-11 was either planned by the US, or at least allowed to happen without interference. I don’t have a strong belief either way, but I’m open to conversation.

I will not, however, engage with someone who brings up jet fuel melting beams. You sound like a dolt, and the exact mechanism of destruction doesn’t factor into the matter.

The thing is while the jet fuel would not have outright melted steel beams, it would certainly have weakened them enough to compromise the building’s structural integrity. But ironically a lot of conspiracy theorists care more about being right than learning the truth, so will not care about nuance or acting in good faith.

You can see similar issues with anti-vaxers objecting to vaccines as unsafe because of outliers. Correlation is enough to prove them right on their points but unimportant for statistics that counter them.

I mean that’s… Like, a lot of what they’ve released from the Epstein files was stuff so crazy that just talking about it makes you sound like a lunatic, I feel like that happens a lot. There are real conspiracies that are grounded in material aims and of a realistic scope, but there’s so much added in that most reasonable people don’t have the energy to sift through all the bullshit. Trying to unravel real conspiracies will ruin your life if you’re not clever and careful.

I will defend someone who says something I don’t agree with, if they’re being respectful and willing to admit they are wrong or open to changing their mind.

I won’t defend someone saying something I think is right or I totally agree with, if they’re being a jackass about it.

I’ve seen threads where both things happen consecutively, and they both get downvoted anyway 😅.

Maybe you can just agree to disagree expecting people to just admit their wrong and agree with you is… going to cause you a lot of trouble in life. Especially if it’s about opinions, opinions aren’t actually objective. Unless the person is way out in left field just agree to disagree, even then you’re probably better off just walking away from the conversation

Yeah absolutely there’s a lot of topics and subjective stuff where agreement to disagree can happen. Being capable of admitting wrong is different than readily admitting wrong at the first disagreement and I do not expect that, but there’s a stubborn kind of tone that I can tell someone will not consider any contrary evidence, which lessens the need to continue the conversation.

Also, sometimes I’ll see comments about things that I had no opinion on that just seemed so obnoxious or annoying that they made me want to research the subject a bit just to see if I want to disagree.

Being into cars and video games, this happens so frequently. Especially because I enjoy both console and PC. Both sides make me hate both sides.

It’s not what you say, it’s how you say it and how it’s perceived.

That’s why we have the politics we have today. Ain’t it great to be picky about how something is said?
