But like, why do children feel the need to scream like they’re being murdered all the time?
My daughter has this absolutely blood curdling scream. And and always has, back to the beginning. I hear static in my ears if she’s close enough when she does it. And so yeah, I’ve had to tell her nobody wants to hear that outside, because it’s true.
Got it, go somewhere away from the house unsupervised. It’s what we did in the 80s!
We still did that in the late 90s even. I would love to know when and how the mentality changed, as far as I know crime rates have gone down since we were kids.
It’s mostly car centric society paving over every third space imaginable and destroying the walkability of our neighborhoods. We built an outside that is dangerous to be a child in with nowhere for them to go.
The town I grew up in has far more parks and walkable spaces today than it did in the 90s…
Just because that may be the case for your one locality it is not the case for the wider society at large. The disappearance of third spaces and the prevalent lack of walkability is a major social issue throughout the majority of the US.
NotJustBikes has many videos explaining this in detail.
As a former 90s kid, it changed when I grew up and realized how much danger I was in and how many close calls I ignored. Then I saw the crime and disappearances rates back then, significantly higher than now. I got into true crime and saw what happened to the kids that weren’t as lucky as me. As a result, my kids never leave my sight, without being overbearing of course.
a reduction in crime rates doesn’t mean it’s safer. it just means that crimes are happening with impunity.
With that attitude we are never going to accomplish anything as a society.
please elaborate on how continuing to do the same thing that got us here is accomplishing anything.
Eh. Violent crime rates are hard to fuck with.
Non violent and overall are easy.
In the 80s people didn’t randomly call child “protective” services if they saw an unattended kid, it was just tuesday.
Then the mother wonders why her child draws such grim picturesXD
Yeah, STFU kid. Go talk to strangers in Roblox or something.
I’m the neighbor, let the kids scream. It’s like a damn ghost town around here.
The sounds of children playing are bice. As long as it’s within reasonable hours why does it matter.
That’s how I feel. Kids deserve space in society too. They’re not just little adults.
I’m a grownup and I could really use a good scream!
You’re allowed to do it.
I don’t wanna hurt people with autism. I have autism and bad sounds hurt a lot. My screams would definitely be bad for others
Thank you.
ETA: You should see if there are any smash rooms around you.
Having space in society doesn’t necessarily mean they should be giving carte blanche to disturb everybody else in the society.
There are very few things on this planet to irritate my tism and ACEs more than screaming of any kind.
Then it’s a good thing no one said they should be “given carte blanche to disturb everyone else”. They said they deserve space to express themselves freely just as much as you deserve to have a quiet space to take refuge.
… let the kids scream…
That is exactly what was said. Nobody cares about kids expressing themselves. This thread is specifically about kids being given carte blanche to scream.
No, it explicitly isn’t what was said. You’re just misrepresenting what was said to fit your narrative by conflating the idea of “providing spaces where kids can be kids” with “giving them carte blanche to disturb everyone”.
Also, being able to be loud and scream is a form of expressing one’s self. The entire topic is explicitly about kids being allowed spaces where they can express themselves comfortably and without judgment.
So, again since you missed it the first time, if you are to deserve spaces where you can have quiet then kids and others deserve spaces where they can be loud. Fair is fair.
You seem to have not read the comic we are all commenting on. This thread is about screaming in neighborhoods nothing more.
Read the comic just fine. This thread is about kids being allowed to be kids and that society we have created leaves no spaces for them to be so. Sorry you’re too simple minded to understand the topic at hand. Talk about a lack of media literacy.
I think it might depend on what we mean by “scream”, but I think everybody needs a bit of shouting, adults too. When I started going to martial arts classes, they were telling everybody to yell at certain points, and I thought, “But won’t this disturb the neighbors?” But eventually, I forgot about that and just shouted. It felt good, too.
I always think someone is dying when the kids are screaming and running in the street, thinking one got hit by a car or something
I Have No Mouth, and I Must Scream
Turn the kid gets taken to the shrink for creating disturbing art.
Cute.
But just imagine the three panels that would’ve led up to Picasso’s Les Demoiselles d’Avignon lol…
Or anything Hieronymus Bosch painted…
Ergot fungus was obviously more prevalent than previously attributed.
In the 15th century Netherlands, one could not be too picky about the sourcing of bread
“Ooo, a little bit of magic mold on my bread? I’m sure that’s fine… let’s paint some crazy!”
