Plot twist: this was never a torture device, it’s just a story of the inventor going “go on, admit it, it feels good, don’t it?” that got blown way out of proportion

A lot of dark ages torture devices are basically that, though. Plenty have no evidence of actual use and have a high probability of just being literary creations (like someone finding a SAW DVD in 2000 years)

        https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Schwedentrunk

was sometimes used during the thirty years’ war (1618 - 1648), so early modern age (again, sigh), not medieval age.

AFAIK many of the torture devices are not historical but were created for amusement, such as these museums.

Those people started doing it becaus a ghost told a guy that the magical energy flows through the spine and every illness happens because the spine is misaligned and needs to be straighten. You don’t need a doctor to tell you the merit of all that

There are some ok ones that are just physical therapists that can order imaging. My mom was sent to one for her hip and he just gave her exercises to do.

Physical therapists have a medical degree. Chiropractors go to a 6 week scam cult training camp.

Calling yourself a Chiropractor gets you way more business than calling yourself a physical therapist - even if you are a physical therapist.

There’s a good way of doing this and is by hand and applying uniform pressure to help people with contractures stretch.

None of that sudden intense pull where anything can go wrong.

The neck stuff they do increases risk of stroke. The whole chiropractic practice isn’t backed by medical research.
