Hey here’s an idea for one.

“This town ain’t big enough for the both of us.”

“Nope, I’m pretty sure it’s just you.”

Last panel zooms out and the first guy to talk is a giant man who can’t fit in the town by himself, and everyone else is normal sized.

Now, then, I think the way this goes is that I’ve told you the perfect comic idea and now somehow I will get a huge check in the mail?

What a horribly lazy pun, brought to us by the most overrated school in all of comicsdom, the New Yorker Style.

I’m okay with the comic, though I’m not a fan of The New Yorker’s articles.

But the spacing on the typeface in the caption around those right-hand quote marks, both the single and double, is killing me.

      looks more

I guess maybe when they made the italic font, they had to move the quote marks to avoid colliding with slanted letters, like the capital T—the left-hand quote marks next to it look fine to me. But then, maybe they didn’t add kerning information so that if an adjacent character didn’t require shifting, the right-hand quotes didn’t shift all the way over, so they’re always left hanging out there to make space for potentially-problematic characters.

You’d think that an entity like The New Yorker, with a long history of printed output, would have selected solid typefaces.

I don’t think the articles in New Yorker are bad. I do think the illustrations are outstanding, but their cartoons are mostly overrated, artistically conservative, generic fare, imo.

Re: the bad typeface, my guess this may have a comic that was submitted for the New Yorker but rejected, so the cartoonist just published it wherever b/c I agree, I don’t think the NYer would eff that up. Just guessing tho
