Please stop changing time. STAHP. It takes serious effort for me to remain on a decent sleep schedule and everytime we switch it just fucks my shit up for a week or more. I hate it so much
I hear you. Even with “fall back”, I will go to sleep at the new time, but will wake up an hour before my alarm, effectively loosing an hour of sleep every night. I’m a mess after a week until my body adjusts again.
Technically, this is daylight savings time ending, so this is changing the clock back to the normal time zone. But yes, they should probably stop it
Best thing about arizona.
Same when going on vacation to a place around the equator. I live in Europe so peak summer the sun doesn’t set until eleven. Then when you travel to the tropics. Sunsets “Damn it’s already that late, i haven’t had dinner yet” looks at watch “WTF it’s still six o’clock”
I’ve had it in reverse while visiting Germany.
Same. This messed with my head so much the first time it happened.
Those long summer evenings though…👌
NW Florida here, latest sunset is 7:55PM. Today it’s at 4:58PM. :( Living in Chicago I saw sunsets around 8:30 in the summer.
Stupid fucking fall back to standard time.
But if we stayed in daylight saving time, in January the sun wouldn’t rise until like 9 am in some places.
Maybe if we just stayed in standard time all year round, the shortening days wouldn’t be so jarring to people because it would happen gradually instead of having a sudden fall back of an hour in autumn.
Or we stay in daylight saving time all year round and just accept the dark mornings.
Or the people who really don’t like shorter days in winter can just move to the equator.
I would way rather have a late sunrise than an early sunset. It’s not even close.
Exactly, I do stuff after work. In the morning I just go to an office that has electric lighting.
Of course there are jobs that don’t take place in an office, but having worked one of those, in my case we already just worked daylight hours, not a 9-5.
I however find it agonizing to get out of bed when it’s cold & dark outside.
Same, but i would rather have the darkness influence my work over my personal time.
I commend your enthusiasm about working. I simply cannot get out of bed when it’s cold & dark outside.
Get a sunrise alarm clock. Coming from a northern region, it’s mandatory in the winter DST or ST.
I haven’t used an alarm clock since 1988. I let my circadian rhythms wake me up. My circadian rhythms are more important to me than sacrificing my health for the rat race. And part of my health obsession included moving to Southern California where it’s pretty much always springtime.
Some of us have to be, you know, at work, by a specific time, because people require and depend on us.
In lots of places, that would mean that sunlight would be exclusive to oligarchs. The rest of us would almost never get home from work in time. I get that CEOs want early light and early darkness: we usually accept overtime when there’s no hope of catching any sunlight, unlike late light and late dark where they have to put overtime on days with bad weather.
Let’s do none of this and make everyone miserable!
Stay in DST please.
If you want to wake up an hour earlier, you can just do that. We don’t need to fuck with the clocks.
DST is ridiculous. The sun should be near its zenith at noon, not at 1.
Yeah, this is my conclusion as well. It literally does not matter what the time is; we can choose to start school/work after sunrise like sane people.
Might as well fall back one more time, leaving an entire generation with an extra hour of sleep that is never taken away again.
we can choose to start school/work after sunrise like sane people.
That’s the crux of the problem though, isn’t it? We don’t do that. We let psychopaths who enjoy waking up before the sun decide when everything else starts and, big surprise, they chose early as fuck.

Please tell my job that I can come in an hour later every day.
The US House has passed a resolution to make DST permanent, so the folks who want permanent DST in the US might get their wish. But, I’m telling you, people are going to complain when their kids are having to walk to school in the pitch dark in the middle of winter.
Around here, kids go to school in the dark in the winter regardless if it is DST or ST.
They could follow the recommendations of the pediatrician’s group (I forgot the name) and start school at a reasonable hour so that growing kids can get enough sleep.
Yeah I have clear memories of driving to school in the dark because of the asinine concept that is zero period
EDIT: I just learned California recently passed a law preventing high schools from starting before 8:30am to combat teen sleep deprivation. Good for them
My province switched to permanent DST this year, so we’re experiencing it for the first time and it’s… not that bad 🤷
I’m in Vancouver where it’s already cloudy, and some kids were already heading to school an hour early for various extracurriculars
IMO if kids going to school in the dark is really a problem, then it should be fixed by adjusting when school starts and ends rather than changing the clock for every single person. I like having more sunlight in the afternoon when I can make use of it, compared to in the morning when it’s used up by transit / getting ready for work and school.
However I wouldn’t mind it too much if we had switched to permanent standard time either. I’m just glad that we don’t have to change anymore.
To hell with the kids, I want to live too.
Why can’t you live on permanent standard time?
Because it’s dark when I go to work, and dark when I leave work.
Then pick up an earlier shift, or move to Ecuador. Why do the rest of us have to adjust our clocks to accommodate you?
Its nice to have sun light at the end of a slave wage shift. Schools and most jobs could start later. Most studies show humans do better when there is sunlight, because its what we had for millions of years to guide us.
Schools and most jobs could start later.
Well if we’re willing to change school and work schedules, why not have the slave wage shift start even earlier so that there’s even more sunlight hours during your free time? If you started your shift at midnight, you’d be coming home right about the time the sun’s coming up. Seriously. If the goal is to have as much of the winter sunlight hours line up with people’s after work time, that’d be about the best way to do it.
Day and night don’t follow our clocks. The sun shines when the sun shines, days get shorter in the winter the further you are from the equator and we just have to live and work around that.
They’re not going to pass it by January when the new Congress starts.
I want summer time the whole year. Summer time is warmer.
That’s why rich people own so many homes.
Move closer to the equator.
Agreed! I got up this morning at 6:30 and had already wasted some daylight, and then it was night before 5!
But just wait, in a couple weeks you can go to work AND come home, in the dark.
Move closer to the equator, quit fucking with my clocks.
Can you first stop putting Mary Poppins letters beside the time that mean something arcane ???
Nah. It’s 7.55. AM or PM, no difference. Welcome to Finland, the land of depression and suicide.
Finland has been #1 on the happiness rankings for a long time.
All the unhappy people kill themselves.
Sounds perfect.
Yeah, was gonna say, 17.27 it’s been long dark in southern Scandinavia
Yeah, currently the day light time is 8 hours 28 mins where I live. And it’s getting shorter still for quite some time.
For almost two more months, and 2min less sunlight/day. Ugh.
At least the oil money trickles down to the people, unlike in murrikuhh.
Nah, that’s Norway.
This is, in large part, due to the shortening of the length of days.
Akshually days still remain 24 hours a piece
I’m talking about daylight hours. The word “day” can refer both to the period from sunrise to sunset, and to a 24 hour period. I was using it to refer to the period from sunrise to sunset.
I thought me spelling “actually” like that made it obvious I was japing…
This but with excitement.
Haha, weaklings. I love the winter and setting the clock this way or that way has never bothered me.
I bet you drink coffee before bed, you charlatan!
Western Australia got rid of daylight savings years ago and it’s literally gone unnoticed. Only reason I remember it’s a thing is the memes, or if I have to do something involving eastern states and they’re either 2 or 3 hours again depending on time of year.
People love to complain. Do you really want to rid them of an opportunity just like this?
It’s weird because the day before we turned the clocks back, 5:27 p.m. was not that dark. Next day, 5:27 p.m. is dark as midnight, yup this comic is accurate.
could be worse, could be stuck on daylight time
Standard time is where most human circadian rhythms naturally land, so yeah.
Better than it being daylight at fucking 8pm
I reallly don’t get why do many people dislike the dark. It’s nice at night!
It’s not like y’all are doing shit outside in the daylight this time of year anyway.
Just cause you aren’t doesn’t mean the rest of us aren’t.
It’s going to be sunny and 60° F this week for me - and those temps will be late afternoon - 4pm till sunset.
Hah ha yeah 5pm, definitely not 3pm. Who needs more than 6 hours of sunlight anyways.
You still get the same amount of sunlight regardless of what the funny time piece says, it’s just a matter of what’s considered acceptable times. I feel like you’d cause less overall issues if we just changed open hours as needed so as to match with daylight instead of the current nonsense.
Uhhh no? Theres literally less daylight during winter the more northern or southern you get? Thats literally how sunlight works? During the shortest days of winter i get about six hours of daylight over here which is just not enough for me personally. I know the natives here dont have a problem with it but im not from here. Probably where im from most people would still find winters dark but thats what i grew up with. As for dst, it doesnt matter in most of the world but in the north it is nice to wake up with sunlight and spend your first few hours in it but i think we should just adjust when work starts, instead of the clocks.
Oh I get what you mean now. Misunderstanding due to being surrounded by idiots, I’ve legit heard folks say that DST gives us more daylight like it’s some type of ritual to appease Sol Invictus. But yeah better to adjust work hours since that can be done in increments and doesn’t fuck everyone up.
Ahh, others also seemed to have misinterpreted my comment, i didnt understand why i got downvoted for not liking short days lol
Norra Norrland in January is lit - no wait, the opposite of lit, but in a good way.
Idk i love summer here but im just not built for the winter here. It doesnt even get really cold but theres so little daylight. Thats why i might move to canada cause its much less northern, has colder winters and hotter summers. Those are all wins for me.
Around the equator, there’s no daylight saving time. It’s also dark every day year round at 6 pm. The only way to prevent early darkness is to go live in the Southern Hemisphere for winter.
Idk, i think 12h of daylight every day would be nice…we hit something like 7h of daylight where I live during winter. And we don’t even have snow or anything to make it nice, we just have a gray wet depressing mess of winters.
