If she’s so sick of it, and they’re not doing anything about it, why does she still stay on Reddit?

Also, why are you re-posting this Reddit-specific drama on Lemmy? Let her make an account and post her stuff if she wants

Some of us tried really hard not to let these drama-drenched nothing comics take over here, but it seems enough of the community thinks “relatable” is substitution for humor or substance, so here are. I’ve blocked some of the accounts that post PCC and similar garbage, but unfortunately you have a few users like King here who I don’t want to block because they do actually participate in the greater Lemmy community but unfortunately also mass-post a bunch of garbage like this low-effort because I’m sure some people think bad content is better than no content. 🤷

I’ve actually had to block her account on Reddit, because it’s usually low effort humor or just plain drama, but always highly upvoted - so always comes on top of your feed, in place of other comics. But you don’t have that option here since it’s not the official account posting…

I wish there was a comic creator label in such post titles, so we could easily filter them.

At least you had bots, I had an actual mod of a huge sub report me to admins because I asked why I was banned for quoting someone’s comment and then reporting them for hate, 12 years of good standing and a stint as a mod also just flushed because the site is managed by unpaid child labor.

Reddit Admins hate user interactions. User interactions cost more money to oversee than passive readers.

Much of Reddit policy boils down to “get unsponsored users off our platform”. They don’t want your comments. They don’t want your posts. They don’t want your drama. They don’t want your input. They want you to show up, look at the sponsored links, maybe click a few, validate the advertisers’ spending on media influence, then keep fucking scrolling.

If you’re doing anything other than that, you’re a net lose to the company and you are uninvited from the platform.

Its a bit like going into a casino and winning money. Casinos don’t exist to pay you. Social Media doesn’t exist to platform you. You’re supposed to be a revenue generator, not a cost center. If you behave otherwise, the business will cut you just like they try to cut every other net-negative expense.

was there ever a platform that didn’t went to shit?

I guess you can argue that 4chan started out as shit and had nowhere better to go.

I might also note that platforms are, at their heart, reflections of the people who run them. And people get older, they leave certain platforms and join others, their tastes and interests change over time.

I think Reddit was doomed the day Aaron Swartz left way back in 2007. And I tend to see platforms and websites fumble the bag at the transition. No idea what’s going to happen to Wikipedia once Jimmy Wales is gone, for instance.

But new stuff comes in to fill the gaps. Its hard to see in hindsight, but there’s always green shoots on the horizon. You often simply don’t realize how nice a thing is until its gone.

I have only ever seen the “Harm prevention” report used exclusively for the purpose of harassment on Reddit. I’m talking like 99.99999% of the time. Everything about that: from the corporate flavored, performative bullshit to the superficially empathetic, and conspicuously caring, two-faced nature of the whole thing really pisses me off. I would prefer if they were just honest about not giving a fuck, frankly.

I think it’s because people know that those who really need that kind of help aren’t going to benefit from some corporate approved form “we care!” message.

So the people who use it are either the “wants to be helpful but is very bad at determining who needs help and how to help” type or the trolling type.

This is ironic considering the source. Didn’t she go crying to Reddit admins to stop people from sharing anything negative about her? I recall people being banned for simply saying they through her comics were low-hanging-fruit and generic.

yes. also a while ago I believe someone on Reddit came up with “proof” that she was also paying a PR type of company to upvote and post positive comments on her posts. Take it with a grain of salt but their proof was essentially people that would comment on her posts ONLY used reddit to comment on her comic posts.

Not a fan or her work or her onlyfans “work” but meh she does play the system well I’ll give her that.

Didn’t even know she had an onlyfans. I can’t imagine people are flocking to “Reddit is run by assholes” content because she flashed her tits online. You don’t really need one to get the other.

I don’t know if she’s done anything per se, but the reason I find her obnoxious is that most of her cartoons are of the format seen here, i.e. a strip in which she has an argument with someone and wins. Often the argument will be a fairly unsophisticated easy target, but will check the performative boxes required to get those shares and upvotes.

Also - as seen again in this very strip - there’s often a persecution/victim complex subtext at play, that never fails to get all the parasocial white knights riled up (edit: and it still seems to work over here too depressingly)

If Kelly from The Onion ever got rebooted as a social media liberal, it’d probably look a lot like her.

So she didn’t actually do anything bad, you just don’t like her style. I’m not sure exactly how being a successful but mid cartoonist makes you a “shit person” but I guess that’s where we are in society.

I didn’t say she didn’t do anything bad, I said I don’t know what she did. Others have in the meantime filled you in, but you’re tripping over yourself trying to get indignant over the answers to a question that you yourself framed in a loaded fashion.

I don’t think your dismissive characterisation of my position is particularly accurate either, which suggests your original question may not have been entirely in good faith…

My question was “what did she do that makes her a bad person” and you replied to my question with some vibe stuff, which I summarized, and now you’re butthurt? It’s okay to not like her comics, and that’s all I’ve read that she’s done bad.

I don’t get the big deal, I am not hiding that. Does that make my question in bad faith? Or does that make the way I summarized it hurt your feelings? I do not care, I just get really weirded out seeing internet hate campaigns against people who are fine and haven’t hurt anyone.

From what I’m reading, this became a cycle of “I’m going to report you to the Admins for being mean” / “I’m going to be even meaner because you reported me to the Admins” hate that culminated in the internet-standard doxing and revenge-porn-ing before it went legal.

For some reason, the practice of reposting people’s OnlyFans material outside the paywall in an effort to humiliate them is… fine? But getting lawyers involved over the release is over the line?

It made me laugh when it was in response to someone getting mad at me after arguing, but occasionally I’d make a highly upvoted comment that was related to being trans or gay and then get them, and that pissed me off. It’s not possible to prove that’s what happened without access to server logs of course, but I for sure wasn’t talking about being depressed or suicidal or anything like that on Reddit, and it was suspicious at minimum.

There has never been a place or moment where that wasn’t a thing. People suck, and any tools like that will always be misused. There’s a reason reporting people anywhere isn’t an automatic and immediate thing.
