That was over 20 years ago. That was when the first movies came out. Was she saying any controversial back then? I don’t remember anyone boycotting the movies.

If the point of this post is trying to move away from the Nobels since it’s “too politicized” I don’t think it makes sense to move to an award system that gave an infamous transphobe a fucking peace prize.

But hey, that’s just me. Not interested in arguing over a meme.

She got the award in 2003, and didnt make start making anti-trans statements until 2019.

What are you saying? That the prize is politicized because they gave Rowling a prize 15 years before any of her transphobic comments? They should predict the future and not give it to anyone who will do something bad in the future? If they take the prize back will it stop being politicized?

I asked them if they considered taking the award back. Let’s see if they respond.

            Dude fuck off.

Moving away from the Nobels because it’s too “political” but then promoting an award system that ended up giving a peace prize to someone who (years later) incited a hate campaign is ironic. That’s the point I was making on this pointless fucking meme.

If you can’t understand that, then you’re as brain damaged as JKR. God fucking damn, go back to reddit you fucking loser.

Too fucking stupid to recognize that people can’t predict the future. Too fucking stubborn to accept that you’re wrong when people point out what broken, dumbass logic you’re trying to use. You’re fucking cooked mate. Maybe get some sleep or grab a snack before you keep trying for the “Dumbest Comment of the Month” award.

Damn son, your comment did NUMBERS!!! I got RATIOED!!! Will I ever recover???

And yeah no totally, my post was all about prognostication. You’re so right. My comment was absolutely telling people to predict the future and not at all about the IRONY of moving away from Nobels and to a different awards system that 20 years ago gave a peace prize to a women who would go on to launch a literal hate campaign.

But come thru Megamind! You’re a genius!

Wow, you have some anger issues. Relax.

Nobel Committee repeatedly awarded the peace prize on political basis like for Obama and now Machado. Multiple war criminals, genociders and segregationist received the award AFTER they committed those crimes like Elihu Root, Woodrow Wilson or Henry Kissinger. Some committed war crimes after they won the prize like Aung San Suu Kyi or Abiy Ahmed and the prizes were never withdrawn. Like, what the fuck are you even comparing? An award for a book author that went transphobic 15 years after she received the award. By your logic awards should be only given to dead people or they will be political.

I personally find the science and academic prizes a lot more interesting. Whenever a book author receives a high profile award I perceive it as less of a human advancement and more of a marketing campaign.

I think the Hugos have done a generally very good job. Like, yeah some don’t hold up, and there have been decisions I disagree with, but at the very worst the awards represent a popular attitude of the time, and at the very best I can talk about any of LeGuinn’s winning books several decades later and find young people gushing about them.

I read a lot of the Hugo Award short story collections and it’s a great way to get into sci-fi. They’re usually pretty good if not excellent. If you like the author’s style, you can go out and look up more of their work. If you don’t, not a problem, it’s just a short story anyway.

Well my country (bit unfair to say that I know, our piece of shit Hungarian government did everything it could to keep Krasznahorkai down) just got it’s second Nobel prize in Literature so I’m a bit biased, but it didn’t really feel like a marketing stunt to me.

Did this meme evolve from it being about Jesse saying stupid shit and Walter being the smart one for not following to Jesse saying smart shit and Walter being a closed-minded idiot about it, like he was in the actual scene from the meme? Or was there ever a period where the meme treated White like the hero?

Oh I know what sort of award I’d grant a princess or any other monarch, ceremonial or not.
