About 3 weeks ago (well past the original reservation period) I decided I might as well put myself on the reservation list for the steam machine (512Gb + controller) and yesterday, I already received my notification that I am able to purchase the damn thing. I expected to wait way longer, at least until next year.
Are turnarounds this short to be expected?

I entered the queue the day it was announced and I’m still waiting. I don’t actually want one (holding out for the Frame), but I had hoped to be a backup in case my friend couldn’t get one.

He got his in a week and I’m still waiting. Lol

I cancelled my spot in line once I saw the price of the 2TB version that I was drawn for. It was going to be a living room machine, but at that price it needs to be someone’s only machine.

I really thought it would be a companion cube to my already baller PC setup. Alas I didn’t need it for that price.

wait queues depend on your area. if the logistics hub near you has a lot more consoles bcs fewer people ordered in your region, you’ll get it faster than those who get it from a hub with more orders

I don’t think the Steam Machine will light the world on fire in the same way as other Valve products. It’s a pretty poor value proposition due to market factors outside of their control.

That’s where I’m at on it - I’m not surprised the waitlist is coming down. I like gaming but not enough for that price point.

And yet lots of people want one and can’t get one, and they’re being scalped for several hundred USD markup on eBay.

I put myself on the list for the 2TB + controller about six weeks ago and haven’t gotten anything. I guess I should’ve settled for the smaller one.

I think that a combination of several things (like less than ideal performance per dollar value for the SM, and the cost of PC components continuing to rapidly climb while SM remains on a who-knows-how-long wait list) pushed quite a few people to other alternatives.

I don’t think all of the regional queues are as low as about a month like OP, but they’re probably all a little shorter than expected.

I’ve been on the waitlist for the 512 with controller since shortly after it was announced, and I just got my invitation a few days ago. Now I’m waiting for shipment. I’d guess it’s easier for them to procure the 512s.

I was willing to wait for anything when the waitlist was announced and ended up getting the 512GB and controller offered really quickly. It also arrived really quickly.

I bet they had a lot more availability of the 512GB storage. They use the short one.

I already swapped out the 512 for 1tb I had lying around, it was easy.

I have 32 GB ram to do next, but that looks challenging so I am putting it off for awhile.

I am using it at my remote office as a work computer by day, and game machine at night. Perfect for traveling and it really is silent.

Depends on your region and the model you selected. I get the impression that they went heavy on the 512+controller SKU and that waitlist seems like it moves the quickest in most regions.
That’s kind of the disadvantage of them siloing the waitlists the way they did. You’ve got people getting full kits after just a few weeks while people have been waiting for just the controller for months.

    What region are you in?

I’m annoyed that I originally picked that queue and then changed to just 512GB without controller. I did not get selected and am stuck on the waitlist and I can’t change without losing my spot, without any information about where that is. I’d literally buy any model available, although I understand why Valve doesn’t want to encourage queue-hopping.

I imagine the bare 512GB is the longest queue.

I’m in germany. Entered my spot early in August, when a friend of mine got their list-spot for the 2TB+controller SKU.
