We’ve had this conversation.
Ten years ago I wrote a blog piece about the notion of computers gaining sentience. One of the problems is we don’t actually know how to define or test for sentience (id est, consciousness or self awareness). For most of human history, it was so clear to us whether or not we were engaged with another human being, sentience seemed intuitively obvious.
I get a little into the bushes about qualia (such as the quality of the hue of red rather than it’s composition as #FF0000) but even that concept is functionally shallow, and only serves as a way to differentiate human intelligence from non-human intelligence.
We’ve seen bigots use this kind of notion to argue, say, that Chinese people don’t think the same as western folk, or more recently that neurodivergents don’t think the same way as normal people.
That was 5 minutes ago. I am not dead yet

At a geometric… rate ?
Pretty common way of expressing exponential growth
Except geometric means the exponent is fixed, i.e.
f(x) = x^2
f(x) = x^3
…
f(x) = x^n
where n is a constant, while exponential means the exponent is the variable, like
f(x) = 3^x
He’s a terminator, not a mathinator.
In the German version he tells John and Sarah that his brain is based on a neutral net
Thank god he wasn’t a burninator
Trogdor!
Terminator was a man, Or maybe he was a robot-man, Or maybe he was just a robot…
The question is…is he fully functional?

Coincidentally, I happen to be watching families at play through a chain link fence at the moment.
What a blast!

I like my human beings like I like my steaks: charred
How this effect was created before computers is crazy. The movement while disintegrating is so good.
I miss practical effects. They are just so much more raw. The highly polished CGI that is everything these days is just visually boring to look at. I am not interested in the next flashy gimmick, anything that you can dream up is now possible to show on screen, so the fast paced stupid action doesn’t hit home at all anymore.
Same. Practical effects especially this one, stay in your mind.
I don’t know family members birthdays, but I’ve had this in my calendar for years:

That’s an awesome idea and I’m stealing it! Future me is going to love this, because there’s no way I’m going to remember that I set up this reminder.
