“I’ll show you something to be hungry about!”
I don’t feel nausea
i think the nausea is just a generic response to say that “something is wrong”. it doesn’t tell you what is wrong though, that’s on you to figure out
also sometimes nothing is wrong, you’re just excited
“Check Engine”
For me its not excited its just being around anyone
Im a skinny mfer and im the same. But for it seems like its actually an early warning sign that you should really go find some food. I know because one time i was in the middle of nowhere and it happened and it was really bad for a while but then eventually my body went “well fuck, i guess we aint gettin any food in the short term so im gonna turn this off again to allow you to function again to look for food” At that point you know you really gotta lock in.
Yeah CICO is technically true but as a thin person myself people really do not adequately account for normal stress response. My body’s natural response to stress is anorexia (the symptom, not nervosa / the disorder). I don’t have better self control I just lose my appetite when I’m upset vs some people get hungrier. It’s not even necessarily a healthy response, if I got cancer or another serious illness I would really struggle to take in enough calories to fight it off properly. In fact old people with a lil chub survive serious hospitalization a lot more readily.
The body works in sensible ways for some things, so it’s easy to forget that we’re a product of a system that makes an arbitrary change as long as the improved chance of propagation outweighs the side effects which there probably will be some because we’re a deeply interconnected mess.
Just a side effect of a stronger adaptation. Our stomach acid is actually really strong, more akin to scavenger animals than other omnivores. Probably as a way to fight ingested pathogens
Yet I still get sick when eating road kill carvass… curious.

Probably because intense hunger is your body functions starting to break down.
Those are markers of where you are in malnutrition.
That’s normal?
I thought I’m weird for feeling either:
- Too full
- Too empty
- Sick
And just have to guess from context.
Never had that happen.
Maybe you’ve never been hungry enough.
If I had to guess the evolutionary mechanism here would be to stop animals from eating too quickly after a period of starvation.
When I was doing chemo I welcomed the hunger specifically because it allayed any nausea I was getting. Honestly I think the other comment in this thread might be right about the dizziness because that has never nauseated me either. I personally would be inclined to think people are misinterpreting their low blood sugar, but we all have unique bodies that respond differently to their environments.
Might just be mechanical. Engaging in wide scale catabolism certainly isn’t gentle on the body. Your muscles physically ache from the action, after all.
Yeah, and it might be different from person to person.
I’ve most definitely been more than hungry enough (starving myself to the point of losing my sense of hunger for 2.5 years), and yet I cannot honestly say I’d ever been “nauseous” from it.
Dizzy, disoriented, yes. But nausea very very rarely happens to me, in extreme, prolonged, vehicle-related circumstances, or sickness for example.
I wonder if nausea is just a consequence of the dizziness, in people that do get nauseous from being dizzy, instead of a direct consequence of metabolism.
You will definitely feel something akin to nausea if you fully deplete your glycogen stores, which is a much more extreme short term shock to the gut (long distance runners know the feeling). Although if you consider nausea to only mean feeling like throwing up, maybe you wouldn’t even call it nausea if you don’t get that particular symptom.
Long distance runner here. Never felt nausea after a run. Intense hunger yes, feeling sick no. My ex used to feel sick if she was just late for a meal. I’d never encountered that in somebody before. I just assumed that she was wired up incorrectly like that thing where some people sneeze if they step into bright sunlight.
Yeah, sounds about right.
Yeah i get spells of dizzy weakness out of hunger but never nausea.
I looked it up a while back because it would happen to me often when I forgot to eat. It seems to be because your stomach produces acid and if there’s a buildup without anything to break down then it gets irritated.
If you have very routined eating habits you may produce extra stomach acid in anticipation of a meal.
Nauseated*
Yu can nau be seated
Why do they call it oven when you of in the cold food of out hot eat the food?
