This is exactly how confused I would expect my mom to be if I sent her a meme. I feel like this would be more on me than her

I don’t get how parents can be this fucking stupid. They have lived on this planet at least twice as long as we have. They should know more than us not less. Instead, they actively refuse to learn new things.

Oh, you’re a youngin. You’ll understand as you get older that not only are there things that will pop up in popular culture that are clearly targeted towards those younger than you, you will realize that you actively don’t care what stupid shit the kids are up to now. That your day will be better if you don’t sacrifice mental energy trying to understand.

You don’t understand. It’s possible not to understand any meme template. To not understand the concept of a meme template. My mom was probably in her 40s when image macros started taking off. She doesn’t give a fuck who Thanos is, wouldn’t understand the text over the image, wouldn’t understand the “this is you” comment.

Imagine someone walking up to you and saying, “Knock knock” and waiting expectedly and you’ve never heard a knock knock joke before. That’s my mom (and lots of moms) and memes.

              “knock knock”

              “What?”

              “Interrupting cow”

              “What are yo–”

              “MOO”

              Hm still works.

Anyway, about memes, there have been illustrations since maybe longer than the written word. You see a picture of the guy using the stairs during a fire instead of an elevator and you don’t go “I don’t know who that guy is I don’t understand”.

it’s literally a meme, it’s not what they expect a low-effort email. also maybe we should send memes over email? there’s potential there…

Very likely it could be fake but still doesn’t explain how my mom doesn’t understand how a post about how I shit over 20x in one day made it to the front page. “How does anyone have time to read about your pooping?” She says. Parents…

Some people are daft, their brains only work in a literal sense. Zero ability to abstract anything. That’s probably 90% of all conservatives.

I wouldn’t be so sure. The same thing would happen when I sent my dad memes. He was not the kind of person to have a sense of humor; he genuinely didn’t understand memes. Eventually I stopped sending them altogether, and then he died (unrelated).

Same for me and my mom, just didn’t get humour, hyperbole etc. I didn’t even bother with memes

I don’t relate to why some people need a call instead of just writing their words, but I guess that’s just how some people’s brains work. I’d almost always prefer clear written words I can refer back to.

Assuming they’ll respond in a timely manner. Some people seem to send a text message, then throw their phone out the window, and only reply again once they’ve fetched it.

Because if you call them they can try and gaslight you into thinking that you are wrong and then there’s no proof of their manipulation.

There’s entire nations on this planet with a vast majority of adults who do this. Some do not want to piss off their dictators, some lied and cheated their way into being a world superpower and don’t wanna lose the bag.

Because sometimes you can resolve confusion with several minutes of back and forth texting and asking for clarification, or 30 seconds on a phone call.

I do prefer texting for most basic communication. But when somebody obviously doesn’t understand what I’m trying to say, and they’re asking me to explain, I’d rather just rip the Band-Aid off and get the conversation over with rather than trying to suss out how many different ways they’re confused about the situation and figure out how much I have to break it down for them to understand me.
