That’s like a chicken and egg question. I think the answer for that was dinosaurs
Once you find a good group, you do what you need to to keep the game going.
¿por qué no los dos?
Humans are so busy looking for Cause->effect we often miss feedback systems Cause<->Effect
Goddamnit. This is so fucking true. Gonna post this to our poly chat.
Poly chat or board games chat? ;)
Uh… It’s the same picture.
Tabletop gamers are very social, but still nerds. Typical tabletop game also has a lot of rules that need to be discussed and interpreted before playing, and if you want to regularly play you need 3-6 people who can consistently show up and focus for a number of hours.
Polyamorous people are the sort of people who have a very clear and precise picture of what they feel counts as cheating and what their personal boundaries are, and who before beginning a relationship will sit down and litigate the rules and boundaries of the relationship, revisiting them as needed later on or as people are added to or leave the polycule. The ones who don’t do this tend to not be in poly relationships for long. Additionally, speaking for myself here as an ethically monogamous person, you kinda need to have the spoons to deal with lots of people having big feelings around you (good/bad doesn’t matter, all intense feelings are intense) which weeds out the introverts.
The venn diagram of these two groups of people isn’t a circle, but the overlap is really huge. Highly social, likely autistic, respects rules, likes learning. And add to that people who are dating are already spending a whole lot of time with each other, which removes one of the difficulties of board games.
Damn, I guess it’s my turn to feel called out. We’ve got a floor to ceiling shelf that is filled with board games, and we’re looking at getting another.
Another board game or another member of the pocket?
Yes.

How much of it is wall-of-shame? Most of my bookshelf, over 90% is wall-of-shame.
That’s the fun part though. Looking for a gaming group and looking for a polycule are basically the same thing
It’s because we know it isn’t cheating to play within house rules so long as everyone agrees 😉
It’s how they figure out who gets to sleep with who
Roll for initiative.
Twister covered in baby oil, the ultimate in poly foreplay.
That sounds fun?
At my age, that sounds very hazardous.
My back seized up just imagining it.
Whom
It’s how they figure out whom gets to sleep with who.
Objectify my polycule pronouns again daddy
depends on who wins and who loses the board game
It’s really just about finding groups of people who can show up on time and stay focused for 1-3 hours, depending.
and stay focused for 1-3 hours
The amount of my boardgame friends who have adhd makes this rule very optional 😅
its just like settlers of catan
less yapping more cheek clapping
So OOP is basically experiencing sexy survivors bias?
having tried board games and such, I can confirm that the straight hetro male nerds did not in fact lead to a poly love heap.
Skill issue
Isn’t that the guy from Bames Jond?
No, it’s a neurologist that specializes in diagnosis but made a typo when he signed up for internet sites.
Maybe being into board games is the default state and monogamists have a board game deficit
I mean, you can have a board game playing friend group where you only fuck one or two of them…
I mean, if everyone is fucking one or two of the other members, it’s basically already a polycule
I did poly for a long time and wasn’t that into board games. But yeah a lot of poly people are into them.
I’m more into tabletop RPGs, but never achieved the dream of a polycule party.
Nowadays I wouldn’t even recommend crossing the streams that way.
I recently had a poly breakup. One of my fears was that it would be the end of the campaign I’ve been dming since the the group was me, a partner and a few of their other partners. Turns out we can all be adults and the game is still on. ☺
Depending on how broad definitions we run by, then board game can be synonymous with tabletop. Especially for the uninitiated
I’ve found that there’s a weird rift where a surprising amount of people who like board games dislike tabletop RPGs. I think because they’re so open, where board games are more structured and directed.
In the biggest polycule I know, there’s a mix of “likes both”, “doesn’t do RPGs but like board games”, and … I don’t know if anyone likes neither in that crew.
Board games alter your hormones
