Recipes should list what equipment you need. This is not unreasonable.
2 hours to cook, 2 minutes to eat, 2 hours to clean it all up
One must imagine Sisyphus hungry
Cleaning is the easy part. Get some hot soapy water going and drop used stuff in as you go, then wash when you’re waiting for a step to finish.
And what are you cooking regularly that takes 2 hours?
sacrificial goat stew
An hour to chop, measure and weigh
An hour to cook
Or just use a washing machine. I empty mine out before cooking and then throw everything in there as I cook. But sometimes not all big pots fit. Still not such a problem.
But the time and effort issue is real. It usually takes about 45 minutes to make a recepie from start to finish. On the other hand, I would have spent that time just sitting otherwise, so it’s good to move.
It took me a minute to realize you weren’t talking about throwing dishes into the clothes washing machine.

reminds me a pic i took at now former job 15 years ago
I worked in such a place once. The dishwasher was always running at max capacity, but it wasn’t fast enough for the manager who kept yelling at me. No one but me stayed in the dishwasher position for more than three days. Eventually they brought in an old “specialist” dish washer from years back, and he showed me the “right” way to do it.
This guy seriously loaded the dish rack onto the conveyor, then sprayed the dishes with a hose while forcefully dragging the rack through the dishwasher in five seconds instead of the standard minute. The dishes weren’t even close to clean, it was disgusting.
They were under new management a couple of months later.
I was told not to complain about dirty dishes at a part time job once, because they couldn’t get anyone to wash dishes otherwise. The guy complained when I put steam pans with caked garbage inside back on the dish line.
That looks like the next guys problem kinda vibe
This one of the reasons that most of the recipes I try are one pot/pan recipes, there’s way less to clean up. I enjoy cooking but have executive dysfunction issues and will leave all those dishes in the sink for weeks on end.

Legitimately intrigued, haha.
That looks like a kick ass book lol. 8 have a couple in the same vein but nothing quite so iconic
laxitives not included
Honestly, cooking while cleaning and being efficient with dishes is a very unappreciated skill. I cook up stuff where I can rinse and throw it directly in a dishwasher, or use just one pan or one pot, clean knives and spatulas after use and put them back.
You end up spending like 5 minutes doing the extra dishes where this doesn’t work out.
I specifically search 1 pot recipes and try to minimize the number of things I need to dirty to make something.
This is why I like my dual level countertop air fry/oven. Just line the pans in aluminum foil, oil, toss some protein on the bottom tray and some potato’s and veggies on the top and hit bake. Then wash the cutting board etc and it beeps that its done and straight onto a plate, gtap the foil and toss it if it’s too dirty and the pans are nice and clan
One of my nephews is this. Cooks something but in the process used a lot of pots and pans and utensils, and didn’t bother washing up afterwards.
Flashbacks of my childhood. My folks owned restaurants and they had no one working the dish machine for lunch. I would come in right from school this and a list of prep work.
I would catch up right around the dinner rush to do it all over again times 3… Needless to say my childhood and teens was my head in a giant sink scrubbing.
I was a dishy in my youth as well. The trick is to organize the pile, and spray it down to loosen the gunk.
Oof this hits home. I grew up on a ranch and always kinda resented having to work my whole childhood while other kids got to screw around but… being in a dish pit every day… I think I feel better now. Stay strong fellow child laborer💪
This is so true lol
Me walking in my kitchen after my wife is done cooking.
She is incapable of doing the “clean as you go” method. If I try to help with that she gets pissed at me for washing something she wasn’t done using yet.
Never use 1 pan when 5 pans will do
You found the recipe? I’m still reading about how the recipe reminds them of warm summer evenings walking along the banks of the river, shortly after they adopted their rescue pup but before the birth of their first child. I’m sure the ingredients list will turn up soon.
But I’m sure that the pup really rescued them.
the best recipes have no more than 3 ingredients, and the instruction is literally to just mix them cold. if you have to heat some up, do not use more than 1 pan.
water, salt, pepper - delicious!
I feel bad for whoever you cook for.
That’s about how my kitchen looks right now. And I just made something quick and simple.
Did you make a quick and simple earthquake?

This is why I treasure one-pot recipes.
This is why I treasure my wok.
