Fuck the older generations who never were going to accept investing in any way in the future until it was already way too late, you will be remembered for generations to come as traitors.

Let’s put it this way: there are negative feedback loops too. One of them is consequences reaching those who contribute most to BAU (and I don’t mean only the wealthy.)

We have to insist and point much louder, otherwise conservatives will push more scapegoating to maintain BAU.

We have to insist and point much louder, otherwise conservatives will push more scapegoating to maintain BAU.

The conservative hive mind goes like this.

      1. Deny climate change for decades and character assassinate anybody who tries to raise awareness about it.
      2. When denial is no longer tenable, abruptly decide to acknowledge climate change, but do not listen to ANYTHING anyone has been saying about how to mitigate climate change or how to best care collectively for humanity as massive changes hit the global climate system, ignore all the research and all the hard work. Put all your trust in ketamine fueled delusions from techbros about how we can solve climate change and tune the rest out. Also if you have ever wanted to embrace being an antisemite or racist against muslims or another group, now is the time baby!
      3. Focus and nurture your nihilism about the fact that at the end of the day what climate change means is Us VS. THEM.
      4. Hand power to whoever has the most emotionally satisfying and comprehensible story about who the THEM is and why it is all their fault so we should do violence against them while feeling no empathy for them (this is what true masculine warriors do no?) while absolving ourselves of the burdens of our sins we know at some level deep down are still yet lurking.

Every time climate change comes up my parents are like “we need to get smart people working on it so we can figure out what to do!!!” And every time I say “we already know what to do though we’re just doing the literal exact opposite.” They always say well we can’t do that, solar and wind actually cost more to make, and all solar money is defrauded, as well as all the other conspiracies. Guess we’ll just keep hurtling towards the cliff because turning would cost us more in the short term! A smart person will figure out how to make us not fall.

Tamino has a blog post on this as well, there are sizeable error bars from the study but as he says

    https://tamino.wordpress.com/2026/10/17/how-fast-is-earth-warming-2/

I would emphasize that whatever method is chosen, the uncertainties are sizeable. The global warming rate, even after the recent acceleration, might be merely 0.025°C/yr (0.25°C per decade) or as high as 0.06°C/yr (0.6°C per decade).

The high end of that range is more than twice the low end, and if the planet heats up that much then by the year 2050 we’ll not only pass 1.5°C and 2°C, we’ll be well past 2.5°C. Even at the lower end of the range we’ll still cross 2°C by the year 2050.

    This does not look good.

the “solution” to human entitlement appears to be climate change.

wow, ecofascism speed run right here. “Humans,” deserve it? Human entitlement? You sure there isn’t something more specific than that which doesn’t also construct humanity in a way where colonized people who have fought this the entire fucking time aren’t naturally deserving of suffering because of some innate, human behaviour that they must also have?

Yes, I’m sure it feels like “strawmaning” or unfair or whatever because you don’t mean to say that, but this is the narrative you just accepted. Think about who would benefit the most from that narrative, those colonized people, you, or the fucks who actually have power in this system and intend to commit even further genocide on colonized peoples to keep this all going? Which one of those three would most benefit from the assertion that this is a result of “human entitlement,” and not a specific system built to benefit a narrow group of people?

“Human” entitlement? There are a small handful of “humans” who are responsible for this, and they could all fit in a small church.

Not to worry, if humans don’t take care of the climate problem, the climate will take care of the human problem.

    The problem is the hope.

It’s way too late the save the world. But it’s still possible to read a few more books before we die of heat stroke in a labor camp!

As I like to tell people, when the world is on fire be the one at the braai. It doesn’t mean we are ignoring the problem, but life is too short to stress. Positive thinking. We will get through this. Always do.
