From an American-

I’m sure by now you all have seen our government’s ‘official response’ to your wildfires. I saw that, and as an American I am beyond appalled. Please know that the public statements made by our government do not reflect the thoughts and beliefs of the majority of the American people.

When the US had wildfires, Canada sent us significant support including numerous firefighting aircraft, air crews, and support equipment. This was not a small token contribution, it made a real difference. It saved lives and property and forest. That is how neighbors and friends are supposed to help each other out, and we appreciated the hell out of it. It is not forgotten.

To hear that our ‘official response’ to your wildfires is to threaten… I have no words to describe the feeling. I am proud to be American, I love my country, but today I am ashamed. That these things are being said as representative of me and my countrymen… it is beyond shameful. We are supposed to be better than this. Better allies, better neighbors, better humans. I am ashamed and angry that my government is representing me and my fellow Americans in this manner.

I can only say that the majority of Americans do not feel this way. Forget the propaganda you see on the news (and it is mostly propaganda). The people of this country love our northern friends, we feel for you. We don’t want to annex Canada or punish you for a natural disaster or any of this crap. We want you all to be safe. We want to help.

THAT is who we are, even if we suck at electing politicians that represent that belief.

Stay safe. Be well. We love you.

This post is just like when all the Americans were apologizing for threatening to invade Greenland.

Your apologies aren’t worth shit. Go call your representatives. Go protest. Go organize. Go phone bank for better representatives. Do anything but whine to foreigners online.

    Hey friend,

I’m glad you condemn the position of the US government on this matter. As for the “from the American” part, I would be a little… careful.

Sadly (as much as I wish you were), you are not really representative of the American public. Over half of the public voted for the current administration. Even with the midterms coming, almost half is still going to keep on voting for the current administration. The hostile position of the American government does not belong to a small crazy minority.

I love you back, friend. I’m sorry you have to live through this government. I’m sure that we share the same core values. I’m sure we share the same desire for freedom, love and happiness for ourselves and others. I love you a lot for that.

But again. You are NOT America. The United states has shown irreconcilable hostility to us recently. We cannot base the sovereignty and well being of our country based on the internal political whims of another. Going forward, we have to prepare for the worst. We cannot rely on the US as our “old, trusted ally”. Rather, we have to view the US as a neighbor with expansionist ambitions, from whom we have received threats of annexation multiple times.

Thus, in the tier of foreign relationships, we have to put the US in the same tier as Russia, China and India. Except, the US becomes much bigger of a threat due to our economic interdependence and our large border.

Sadly, this position of Canada (the government and most of the public) will not change till the US can demonstrate decades long stability in terms of a foreign policy that considers Canada an ally.

“do not reflect the thoughts and beliefs of the majority of the American people.”

Bullshit. The majority of people who cared enough to vote, voted for this outcome. The rest of your country doesn’t give a shit.

You elected a fucking convicted felon, rapist, child molester and known con man to lead your country. He started a party of MAGA filled with the most deplorable cunts your country can offer. This fat fuck and MAGA members attacks and insult long time allies and partners.

When the US had wildfires, we sent our people to help. Our people have died doing this. This is what allies and friends do.

Next time you’re on fire, I really hope Canada turns our back on you and says “Burn, bitch.” I know we won’t because we still collectively think of you as allies that might get their shit figured out. But the US can eat a big fucking sack of dicks as far as I’m concerned. I fucking tired of this shit.

Quit asking for forgiveness and fix your fucking house. Until then, I don’t care what you have to say.

As an American who despises the administration and how we’re treating our allies, I agree with you. There’s no point in apologizing or trying to save face or whatever. This country needs to eat bags of dicks until they finally suffer enough to quit doing the same stupid ass shit.

Please stop sending help. Please stop acting like we’re still normal. Until Trump and enough of his supporters get beaten in the face with the consequences of their actions, they will not stop.

We stopped educating everyone with less money than the average middle class. You cannot reason with them because 1) they struggle with logic, and 2) they accept wholesale, without question, the utter lies and propaganda of the monied right-wing. They will simply have to learn the hard way, by suffering.

What, start violent action against the state? Do you understand what that means? Like, really REALLY understand what that means?

It means your house gets bombed to bits. You die, along with your friends. Civilians die, little children die.

“Use your 2nd amendment” does sound really cool. That’s until you truly understand the consequences of this.

Isn’t the US threatening us with annexation?

Yes it is. But military action hasn’t happened. There’s no intelligence that the US is preparing for something like that. Hence, you asking someone to “use the second amendment”, is you asking someone else to die for you, because you perceive their state to be a threat to you.

          Not cool.

Why don’t YOU do it? Why don’t you travel to the US and use the second amendment? Or hell, just steal a gun and commit an act of random stochastic terrorism like you’re encouraging folks to do. You’re just as capable of any American citizen of this. In the US, guns are easy to acquire if you’re willing to steal them. And the second amendment is entirely irrelevant, as is your nationality and assumed lack of US citizenship, as the law isn’t really relevant in these scenarios. You’re talking about committing some sort of mass shooting against politicians or other political figures. If you’re not walking away from that alive; the law is completely irrelevant for you. You’re just as capable of doing this as any American citizen.

In the end, you’ll be just as dead and have accomplished just as much as the Americans you are encouraging to pointlessly throw their lives away.

There’s no lasting change that can be effected by a one person act of terrorism. It takes mass organization, and people will have to be desperate. In this case, it might take civil war.

Boo Hoo. I’m really sick of reading how sorry you are when you repeatedly elect scumbags like Bush Jr. or Trumpenfuhrer and then think everything is OK when you elect a Weimarcrat. Read a few history books (if capable) and find out what to do when confronted with an authoritarian or unresponsive government. A lot of the rest of the world understands that as bad as Trump is, he is merely a symptom of a deeply sick and diseased society. Yourself , like a lot of Americans, think a strongly worded tweet somehow absolves them of blame. It does not. Fix your s**t and stop whining online.

You have every right not to accept my or anyone else’s apology and I sure as fuck don’t blame you for it. If after the CA wildfires someone had said the same thing to us as our neighborhoods were burning we sure as shit wouldn’t smile and pat them on the back and say ‘its all good’ even if one random idiot from that country apologized. In general, it’s not up to the person apologizing to dictate how the wronged party feel or react.

That said, I would point out that ‘2/3 of the USA is MAGA or non-voters’ is not accurate.

He - a 34-times elitist felon with no clue about anything - won, over a career prosecutor and community leader with experience in the job, who was unfortunately a woman with the wrong pigmentation and unable to disagree with the policies of her current boss until she was in a position to change them.

I strongly doubt he’d lose to even the best candidate. If they could or can, foreign money making bank on this halfwit’s whims would bankroll another sketchy victory time and time again.

Thanks for the kind words, but I’ll be frank. Wanna help? Stop making everything about yourself (individually and as a nation), go fix your country’s broken-ass system, and come visit us and buy our stuff if you like in the meantime. If you want our trust back, figure out how the worst living caricature of America achieved the highest political office a second time, and how will you collectively prevent that from happening again? Personally, I’ll come celebrate when it happens, but that will only be the start of a generation’s worth of work to rebuild what was lost.

      All 100% valid.

Our problem is a lot deeper than politics. Painting with somewhat broad strokes- our education system does a shit job of teaching critical thinking and analytics, but does a great job of teaching kids that learning and research are boring and not fun and should be avoided when possible. Then we bathe these kids in a fire hose of short form videos (which we’ve exported worldwide- sorry :( ) and the result is generations of kids who don’t research anything and can’t pay attention to anything for more than 90 seconds.

The result of that is that overwhelmingly Americans get election-related information by ‘push’ channels- TV, news, advertisements. Independent research into candidates is not common. And the crap we have now is the result- not just Trump but a Congress that’s too focused on re-elections and thus has no idea how to wield power or when it should be wielded.

We’re in a bad state. It took multiple generations to get into this crap and it will take multiple generations to dig ourselves out- assuming we as a nation even have the wherewithal to realize that digging out is necessary let alone the willpower to do it. I love my country, but I’m fearful of our future, especially over the next few decades.

Honestly I worry that USA will end up like the film Idiocracy and the rest of the world will just build a giant wall around USA to keep us from screwing anything else up :(

And no I don’t feel better. My ‘guilt’ is irrelevant. My country isn’t on fire. I just see something being said in my name that I strongly disagree with so I say nope that’s not me.

I strongly believe that any group will be judged by the actions of the loudest and most visible subgroup, unless the rest of the group distances themselves from that subgroup. So this is my small act to distance myself.

No. You’re a bunch of fucking bloodthirsty treatlerites, who kill, rape, murder and pillage the rest of the world, so that you can live like kings.

Since WWII, you’ve couped dozens of countries, killed millions of innocent civilians, and contributed to the climate crisis more than any other country in the history of the planet.

Do you realize that a balkanization of the US entails horrible conditions for the civilian population? For people who had NOTHING to do with anything? Little children?

Can’t you “pray” that the US instead, move towards being a peaceful, progressive society? A society that helps itself and the world?

Also, what exactly do you think you’re achieving by saying stuff like this? Nothing that you are wishing for is likely going to pass. The people you want punished aren’t going to be punished. All that it does is make you insufferable, and poison the entire discussion for everyone participating.

Please know that the public statements made by our government do not reflect the thoughts and beliefs of the majority of the American people.

I can only say that the majority of Americans do not feel this way.

Always making up excuses for oneself. Always failing to see anything beyond the individual responsibility. Feeling guilty for whoever’s on the receiving end of bullying but not really doing anything to stop it.

This administration is a representation of the current state of the US population, and you’re just one more grain of dirt where it sprouts. You don’t get to opt out of this just because you know it’s fucked up.

There’s no excuses. America prides itself on government ‘of the people, by the people, for the people’. So yeah, all of use share some responsibility for this crap, whether we voted for the current government or not. I mean no excuses here.

I hope you would understand though that there are some of us who have never voted for the current government, have never supported it in any way, and in fact have always opposed it to varying degrees. That doesn’t excuse such people from a certain amount of collective responsibility as a nation. But I think that there’s a difference between ‘I voted for Trump twice and I donated to his campaign and I persuaded others to vote for him but now I regret my actions’ and ‘I never voted for him, I always opposed him, and now I oppose this’.

I don’t claim to be opt-out-able. I never voted for the guy, but I also gave him a lot more benefit of the doubt more than others, including in my online postings. My only point with this post is to disavow the current actions and statements of the government, and to say that there’s lots of Americans who love Canada and support Canada and don’t support the crap coming out of Washington.

No one needs to understand this, because everyone already knows he didn’t win by landslide. Do you think the rest of the world is stupid and uninformed? That we somehow don’t remember how close of an election it was? That we somehow don’t hear over and over the same talk about absenteeism and voter suppression? I know way more about US elections than I’d like to, just because it’s forced upon us to know what’s up with you.

there’s lots of Americans who love Canada

What you need to understand is that this is not relevant to anyone else but you. An excuse to feel better about yourself.

Not relevant. Go spend your energy on real activism.

As a Canadiain, please stop. Fix your shit. “the majority of us aren’t like this” I don’t buy it. your people voted this clown into office…twice. And before that you voted Bush jr into office…twice. It’s the same song and dance from you.

Stop. Apologizing. I’m tired of seeing americans apologize and then do jack all about it. I don’t want your love, I don’t need it. All we and a good chunk of us Canadians want is for you americans to hopefully, one day, figure it out. not just “get good” for 4 to 8 year stints and then vote in another right-wing nutjob.

We don’t care what you people think. “Oh the Americans are blaming us for something else and slapping another tariff ‘on us’ so what?” We’ve moved on, I suggest you do the same. Now I know how people getting out of a relationship with one person who just won’t “let go” feel.

We would rather you accept that you all collectively fucked up yet again and not try and ask for our forgiveness. again, we don’t care. and stop saying “not all of us” it’s such bullshit.

As a Canadian I can understand your annoyance, and definitely agree that Americans who feel guilty should take action at home.

However, it’s not like Canada doesn’t vote for idiots too. The country is more or less split between left and right, and the two rich provinces are never on the left. Ontario continues to vote in Fords, and don’t get me started on Alberta. The last federal election easily could have gone conservative too.

            For one, we’re talking federal.

And two, is he in the epstein files? Did he traffic humans?

What crimes has he been convicted of?

Canada should absolutely be worried about the same cult idiocy running rampant. The thing is that a large part of this worry is intentional USA meddling from the current regime and surrounding groups like the heritage foundation and ATLAS network pushing shit like the convoy, maple maga, and Alberta separatism.

The last one is freaky because it’s what the USA generally does to a country before trying to claim that the people want the oil to be liberated by the USA. Makes the aggressive threats about the smoke even more appalling.

We can’t do as much about our own problems when they are mostly coming from across the border. Hopefully progressives globally can cooperatively figure out how to actively prevent this fascist shit from taking over, or neo-liberal faux progressives from claiming to be the resistance while servings the corruption and oligarchs

To OP personally, you are appreciated and I hope we can all find actions and methods of cooperation that can save us from this spreading cancer.

No, he should be writing to his congressman, he should be writing letters to the president, the VP, the secretary of whatever.

I’m holding a bag with $200k USD, and insider information for a publicly traded company that could earn billions. This could be yours if you do this thing for me.

One down, only a few hundred more to go. Might actually be the first time I see action from one of the letters I have written to them every week since trump took office. I am also active with my local government. Still no change. Tell me what should we write and do to a government that doesn’t give a damn about their job unless it comes with cash or saliva?
