I feel like I’m missing a key piece of information here. Wtf is “tesseract” in this context?

UPDATE: never mind. Other posts were more detailed. Apparently it’s a Lemmy instance/front end? And the owner(s) compiled a huge block list by usernames.

I still don’t know why it matters, what’s so special about tesseract.

    Also yuri.

    They specifically blocked Wholsome Yuri.

    And violet08.

Because I guess sexcapades are a bannable offense?

Yeah those are two oddballs that I’ve noticed so far.

Lemmy.world’s mod/admin team has a very well documented history of being heavily biased in the direction of genocidal Zionists, blatant double standards when it comes to things like ICE (illegal state sponsored terrorism) vs non state sponsored terrorism.

          And they’re just needlessly petty.

Literally Stamets used to be part of that team, discovered the extent of that bullshit personally… an LW mod had a hissy fit over Canadian terminology and government procedure… and decided to start ban hammering people over it.

Stamets is Canadian, the other mod is not… and Stam tried to explain to that mod that they were mistaken, confused.

They instead doubled down, it blew up into a similar popcorn level event… Stamets left LW, and now he is on this stealth block list.

The LW team have no problem being duplicitous and covert in enforcement over their little fiefdoms, and the defense of their own egos.

Again, I implore you to leave.

Also, no, the actual people that run LW? They’re liberals, neoliberals. Liberalism is not leftism. Go do some first year Poli Sci reading if you need an explanation, I’m tired.

I think OP understands there is space to the left of US democrats, and the discourse tends to be “Kinda left” by commonly understood definition.

Also some of us enjoy a lot of non-political content, and World is fine for that.

              I don’t. I don’t think they know that.

I don’t think you do either.

Leftism can be cleanly seperated from Liberalism in this way:

Leftists want to abolish capitalism, change it so much that it’s not capitalism any more.

Liberals think capitalism is… a good person, but just, misunderstood.

Also, if I just told you that the LW admin/mod team is… consistently defending genociders, and state sponsored terrorism?

And you say… well I am apolitical, so that’s fine?

You are not apolitical, you are in fact explcitly fine with those horrible things, you are saying they don’t bother you that much.

… there are plenty of non political communities and discussion on… all of the banned instances, many others too.

But no, no, you’re fine with the genocide supporting one.

              Ok then.

Here is a LINK to a long list of citations of extremism, imperialism, and promotion of war, genocide, and violence by the head Lemmy developers and owners of Lemmy ML. People who host Lemmy have the moral responsibility to vet every update and remove all links to donate to Lemmy development or they’re complicit in these crimes.

Until something irredeemably bad comes out about the Piefed devs, they’re infinitely better.

I always considered myself centrist, which by today’s standards makes me a radical leftist. At some point the Overton Window flew past me and is now a far off speck in the distance. I’m surprised I was included to be honest. I often post things that have nuance, which always seems to piss actual radical leftists.

Tesseract was an alternative frontend instances could host. Despite having configuration options for filtering or the lack thereof, Tesseract would silently both download and enforce a custom filter; this hidden filter could not be overridden by any custom configuration. The hidden filter included regex to block keywords, users, and instances, showing a generic error about anything filtered as being “incompatible with Tesseract”.

I too can string random words together in a way that makes no sense. Watch:

Glamorous apples run zones for yarn waggons fungus times

        See?

You know you can just define individual words to figure out what things mean, right? Like so:

Alternative: another option or substitute for the usual or original thing.

Frontend: the user-facing part of a website or application that people interact with.

Instances: separate running copies or deployments of a service or application.

Could: indicates possibility; something is able or potentially able to happen.

Host — to run, provide, store, or make a service available on a server.

          The words make sense.

If you don’t understand them, try looking them up.

Software is complicated and technical. You not being able to understand the words used in the field does not make them nonsensical.

The frontend is the portion of a webserver you see. It’s the website after the server has done processing everything it needs to in the background.

Instances in this case means a webserver which is apart of the fediverse, more specifically one that uses the lemmy API in this case.

So tldr, a lemmy server could use tesseract in its code to have a prettier website displayed for users.
