that fucking cop should go straight to jail, charged with torturing an animal, charged with killing an animal, charged for trespassing, charged for destruction of property, then swiftly convicted and sentenced to a decade or more in prison without parole. and upon release never be allowed to own firearms again, never be allowed to work in law enforcement or private security or private investigation ever again, and be barred from working or living with animals.
and that’s my nice, measured, restrained, internet friendly reply.

officials have launched an investigation into the shooting and placed the unidentified officer on administrative leave
Funny; that’s the same thing that happens when they shoot black people
This isn’t like Harambe. The way to make Harambe equivalent would be if Harambe was killed because some cop wandered into his enclosure while looking for a missing person and managed to shoot him before Harambe ripped his arms off for trying to taze him.
American police are the biggest pussies on the planet.
I can think of one bigger.

Gross

What’s your goal here?
personally?
to stop ejaculating into my chilli for the neighborhood chilli cookoff.
I swear it’s the only reason I have won six years in a row.
Never stop ejaculating I believe in you.

Police is the best example of Maslow’s hammer: “it is tempting, if the only tool you have is a hammer, to treat everything as if it were a nail.”
I find the reverse to also be true.
It is tempting, when an object needs percussive adjustment, to treat every tool as if it were a hammer.
Back on the right timeline?! 😄
Fuck the police.
Fuck the police.
Yo, I said fuck 'em!
If I think what is happening is happening, it better not be.
Is this about the donkey, or has another beloved pet been killed?
Now I’m sad, rather than confused. Poor, sweet baby…
Jesus fucking Christ
The social media post from the farm said the officer told HeeHaw’s owners that the donkey ran up to them braying, so “they thought they were in danger and shot and killed him after trying to taze him.”
They really do find some of the most spineless creatures to become cops.
They fucking tried to taze a donkey.
Yeah I bet he seemed pissed. You tazed him bro.
A baby donkey according to the article.
Police families should be banned from all petting zoos
Police families should be banned from all
petting zoospets.Police families should be banned
from all petting zoos pets.
WTF, that sounds like something from a satirical sketch or a story from the onion.
Bro, donkeys are fucking brutal; they’ll stomp a mountain lion to death for fun. They’re often kept to protect herds.
I grew up on a farm, and a donkey is one of the few farm animals that would actually instill fear in me if I was being charged. Even a bull wouldn’t worry me as much.
What is this, anti-donkey propaganda? Show me that study that says donkeys - as in, more than one - stomp any predatory animal “for fun”.
Who died this time?
Police shot a pet donkey in the USA, I think. The officer had gone on the pasture without permission, and when the donkey went curiously to check them out, they shot it.
It gets worse
The young donkey was bottle-raised, a domestic pet and part of the petting zoo who “never knew a stranger,” the Facebook post said.
This is a donkey who loved people and thought he’d found a new friend.
Motherfuckers were terrified of a literal petting zoo. I had more courage as a toddler.
Acac
All cops are cowards
It’s true. Every cop I’ve met was indeed a cac.
Accurate, but doesn’t really roll off the tongue like ACAB
all cops are babies
if it’s so beloved why are they keeping it locked up?
If you really loved your kids you’d let them wander into traffic
(This isn’t a problem in most developed countries but I’ll let the point stand)
Because it’s a domesticated animal.
Totally justifies shooting it.
Its a baby fucking donkey not a wild animal
If the donkey was fucking babies maybe it deserved to be shot

I love my cats, but they never go outside. Because I also love the birds.
In Australia there is an expectation that people keep their cats inside because those little murder machine are able to decimate a significant amount of our native fauna. I was shocked when I moved to the UK for a few years to find out that a typical requirement for getting a cat there through legitimate sources included committing to letting them roam outside.
In Australia, I’m surprised the local fauna doesn’t decimate the cats.
In some densely populated cities, cats help control the rat population.
There’s no fauna left there anyways, best thing I can get you is dead chicken in KFC.
There’s a few, my folks have a family of bandicoots living in their backyard
Their crate collection must be in shambles.
“Humans are destroying the planet and drive a lot of the fauna towards extinction. Let’s blame…” spins wheel… “Cats.”
Dude doesn’t know what an invasive species is, or how cats got to Australia
Plot twist: They are there because of us! There are many reasons why biodiversity is rapidly declining. That doesn’t mean that cats are not wreaking havoc on the local bird population:

I like how in their remediation suggestions they “gloss” over windows as an unavoidable bird genocide fact of life. Abolish windows! !fuckwindows@lemmy.world
Why are US numbers way off the chart for cats and windows? Is the US overrun with cats and murderous windows? How do you make sure the windows stay friendly towards humans? Do you export bad windows to Russia?
There are so many questions…
Because of population. It’s basically this but comparing USA and Canada and showing it as a bar chart.
Adjusting for population the numbers should only be 10 times higher, 1.96 billion for cats and 250 million for windows. Cats are close to equal but I’m still concerned about your windows.
Yeah well cats aren’t native to Australia, humans brought them here so that’s on us, the common house cat is an apex predator here, cat owners need to take some responsibility for their murder machines or we end up with more 20 kg feral cats that can take out a kangaroo
Nitpick, but cats aren’t an “apex” predator in any environment. They are hunted by pretty much every carnivore at least as big as a coyote, including large birds of prey.
They are in New Zealand, where the problem is worse than in Australia. New Zealand has zero native land predators. There are some birds of prey that can hunt invasive stoats and rats, but cats are effectively uncontested (with the exception of humans performing population control).
Guy who used to let his cat out here, the medical costs became too much for us at one point, so we no longer let that orange bastard out. He lost like 4-5 of his 9 lives to cars.
Maybe it’s time people stopped letting their cars out.
They’re much safer in a garage anyway.
Insurance companies agree
That’s why you need to get triples.
Rescued companions or pets?
ITT: people not getting the joke
Don’t know this specific situation, but there are animals in captivity because they’re unable to be released back into the wild for various reasons. Things like animals being actively rehabilitated. Or ones that are now animal ambassadors used to teach people about the species or parts of human society that negatively affect wildlife. Maybe because they are unable to fly anymore, or they imprinted on humans, are unable to forage or hunt properly, etc.
For sure. That’s a small minority of the animals that have to live in captivity for our “entertainment” though.
Oh. So you weren’t making a joke.
No some people are too small-minded to understand the layera of long term benefits provided by good zoos.
Well, I’ll say this much, if you and your stripey kin don’t stay away from my chickens it’ll be skunks in the box.
i’ll spray you good, slaver
I can’t tell if that is a great joke, or you’re one of those nutters that calls people slavers for having pets.
In either case, thanks for the laugh
It really depends on the facility. Some are better than others. They vary wildly and it’s hard for you as a consumer to know which ones are good and which are bad. Some large zoos have extensive conservation programs and focus around education, and some are just animals in jail for entertainment. From the outside it’s hard to tell the difference a lot of the time.
It’s one of the reasons I support Alveus Sanctuary and their recent expansions and future plans. Their facilities and programs are based around video streaming and chat interaction, instead of in person exhibits. They have collaborative events with streamers, etc. in person to help further their reach to new people and educate viewers that otherwise may never interact at all with that type of content. Otherwise all of the animals have limited human interaction only with the employees. Those in person collaborations are always about educating the viewers about the animals and various societal links related to them. Things like pesticide use on bugs and how that propagates up the food chain, selective breeding and trade of exotic animals, amphibians and environmental pollution, etc.
If they keep animals confined without a clear purpose for the benefit of that animal then I don’t care. “Oh we keep some childern locked up to fund our kindergarden with the revenue we get from people being able to see them” kinda logic.
The reason a lot of zoos have conservation programs is because they need to replace the captive animals I’d wager…
“Oh we keep some childern locked up to fund our kindergarden with the revenue we get from people being able to see them” kinda logic.
There’s something wrong with your brain if you can’t (refuse to) understand the difference.
Shooting it was hardly preferable, except to people who like whatever cops do.
They are criminals.
It was needed to shunt the universe back to the way it was!
MurciaMurica, fuck yeah!/s
What’s wrong with Murcia, Spain?
My phone really fights me if I want to type “murica”. Probably a good thing though
American schooling is so bad folks don’t even know how to spell 'MURICA!
