standing to piss at home is too messy. and i hate when i get up to use the toilet at night and i try to sit but the seat is up. always put the seat back down it’s not hard.

also these weird adversarial gender memes are cringe.

Everyone should put the lid down because the top lid is to keep poop mist from covering everything.

This why I’ve lived with many a woman and never experienced this, and we respect each other enough not to clutter up the sink and also not have the shitter be out and open for everyone.

I close the lid. I don’t want to see, hear, or smell that.

Edit: My heart goes out to everyone who concluded closing the entire lid after flushing meant not flushing.

The people commenting that we made me sad, lol.

Also. Lid down when flushing is mandatory flushing imo. Poop aerosol isn’t exactly something I like all over my bathroom.

I remember reading somewhere that German toilets have a little shelf specifically to inspect your shit for health reasons, so maybe don’t visit Germany

Fun article, except I think there’s a lot of other factors like the type of seat, hi vs low flow, and which surfaces you’re talking about.

If it mitigates getting shit on the sink counter / toothbrushes, but not the floor, that sounds like a win. And yes, always use proper cleaners… what madman cleans a toilet with just water?

Wow thanks for sharing, I never would’ve thought! Glad my toilet is in a seperate room from the bathroom (and that that’s pretty normal in my country).

Quick ETA: I just realised this is ‘just’ about aerosols. So not necessarily true of micro-solids, still important

Standing to pee is exponentially worse than this. Standing to pee is disgusting, and I have a penis. When you stand to pee, a fine mist of urine drifts away from the stream and covers every surface, where it rots. Ever stand to pee near a window where the a sun beam was coming in from outside? You can see the piss mist drifting around in the sunlight.

Ever since I saw that I’ve been sitting to pee. I suppose if you consistently clean every surface near your toilet then standing is fine, but isn’t saving time the entire point of standing?

Easy to forget, especially when going from low flow to high flow use cases. Most people just keep upping the pressure wondering why they aren’t getting consistent flow without realizing it’s actually a tip issue.

          Happy to help.

Is there a particular direction you have to twist it in? It appears to only actuate in a back and forth motion and that hasn’t made a lick of difference, unfortunately.

        Perhaps I should try harde

I’m used to just sitting to pee, exactly for this reason, but there’s a rare case where I give up and pee standing, i.e when I’m already dressed and it’s way easier, where I used to risk it and pee standing.

I stopped doing that even in those rare cases when we’ve gotten the blood/horror bathroom mat, something like this, but not branded and from what I presume is the original source (Aliexpress).

It’s horrifying when you see the mess you’re making, even if you really try not to.

Alternatively, make both genders put the lid down. That way everyone has to do the same work to pee.

With the time you save by leaving the seat up, build her a vanity in the bedroom. A couple of Ikea drawers, a standalone desk top, a large freestanding mirror, and some LED strip lights. It’s a fun project and you will both love it. Also put the seat and lid down, that’s nasty

My wife and I just have separate bathrooms, but it’s largely because we’re both nesters so we each need a sink that looks like this.

I put it up cause I want it up.
You put it down cause you want it down.
Why should I have to put it up **and ** down?

We have separate bathrooms, but I still have PTSD from the time I changed the skirting boards in hers.
