Man, I did some light manual labor yesterday and I can barely stand today. I can’t go to fucking war without severely endangering every friendly around me.

So no, 45 is not the new thirty fucking anything.

I’m not dying for rich people that got power and decided to break literally every stabilizing thing in geopolitics so that they could make more money and then start a war to cover it up.

I might die because of them, but there’s no way I’m dying for them. If they draft, I’m running. call me whatever you want.

In totalitarian regimes—communism, fascism, religious fundamentalism—popular support is a given. You can start wars, you can prolong them, you can put anyone in uniform for any length of time without ever having to worry about the slightest political backlash. In a democracy, the polar opposite is true. Public support must be husbanded as a finite national resource. It must be spent wisely, sparingly, and with the greatest return on your investment. America is especially sensitive to war weariness, and nothing brings on a backlash like the perception of defeat. I say “perception” because America is a very all-or-nothing society. We like the big win, the touchdown, the knockout in the first round. We like to know, and for everyone else to know, that our victory wasn’t only uncontested, it was positively devastating. -Max Brooks, World War Z: An Oral History of the Zombie War

        communism, fascism, religious fundamentalism

        democracy

Point of order, democracy is a mechanism for selecting leadership, not an ideology of governance.

Democracies routinely produce Communist, Fascist, and Religious Fundamentalist leaders.

Like, I know it’s a quote and all. But it’s just a Baby’s First PolySci view of how civilizations organize themselves. Not an ounce of Lockean Theory to be found.

That’s before you get into the reality of Republican governance and practical enfranchisement. You can’t go rolling up on Thomas Jefferson’s slaves and announcing “Idiots, it’s a democracy, why did you vote for this?”

They increased the max to 42

      https://www.goarmy.com/how-to-join/requirements

This is not a draft. Which is like 18-26ish typically.

BUT, that doesn’t mean the draft is fixed at those ages. BUT, I doubt they would ever need to draft up to 42 based on the US population and the willingness of psychos to want to a) kill people or b) get paid to kill people via promises of a better life later as a veteran (Baby killer)

Tagging you as “killing is cool” for trying to justify joining the military and killing people to have a good life for yourself as somehow acceptable in any situation.

With as much civility as a person like you deserves: please exit the planet at your earliest convenience.

Do you think it’s okay to join the military and kill people for a government who won’t feed its people, just so you can eat?

              It’s a yes or a no.

Not sure where that came from, but tag me however you want. Might want to reread what I wrote that was agreeing with you and adding more ways people get funneled into service? Nothing I said was a promotion for joining anything. Also appreciate the subtle violence in the wish for me… wow.

I’m not trolling you. I’m commenting on your exact words. You’re the trash here, you think it’s ok to join the military and kill people in the name of your country or God or whatever if your own fucking country can’t feed you.

The fact that you’re not super embarrassed and deleting your comment at this point says a whole lot about you and society

They need a draft once all those Action Hero wannabes get swatted down by Iranian drones and the Canadian troops start rolling in to annex the southern province.

Who knew Fallout would be right about the annexation but wrong about which way it went?

          Haha annex. Love it.

There’s a good line from the TV show, I don’t think it was used in the games. It’s in reference to a character that has to travel from Canada to the USA, and someone tells them:

“don’t think of them as humans, think of them as Americans”

Most of war is getting things fixed or moving to the front line fighting. For every battalion fighting there is another fixing cars, doing laundry, cooking, or getting the paperwork in order for all of those. Doctors are just as important to an army as soldiers. None of those jobs is too much for a 35 year old getting 4 years of service in.

      Ageist nonsense.

Nah we need the military as an option for poor 18yos with no job or education prospects after highschool. Which, despite the declining birthright, is still somehow a growing demographic.
