Paul McCartney’s official Reddit account seems to have been banned. The account, u/paulmccartney, had just dropped a set of photos and videos from the first night of his shows at the Fonda Theatre. It went straight into the r/PaulMcCartney subreddit. Then, not long after, the whole thing disappeared.
Kind of tangential to the topic but reddit has been appropriating user names for celebrities and companies. The first known instance (as far as I know) was u/borat. I was surprised thiskind of thing wasn’t a bigger deal.
I wouldn’t be surprised if u/paulmccartney is such a case. A basic name that’s only a 5 year old account. No way nobody grabbed that before.
Reddits commie style snowflake moderation…
Fuck Reddit Mods. Well not literally, of course.
reddit deleted my account for no reason. i did nothing bad to warrant it getting banned. so i feel it was a similar case for paul
I just want to say that I know people who have known Paul for many years, and every single one of them have nothing but good things to say about him. He knows people want to catch him doing jerk behavior, so he bends over backwards to be polite and respectful to EVERYBODY. He’s a Righteous Dude.
Unfortunately my first association is the “Glass Walls” ad that was hammered into my brain hundreds of times before I learned to block them.

No, Paul, do you think slaughterhouse employees are even more likely to be vegetarian? Good intentions, but so infuriating.
I’m a carnivore, but I respect reasonable vegetarian/vegans. I’ll take a rock star taking a stand like that over Lars attacking music fans because they love music too much.
Totally agreed.
Wow, it was tough to watch that whole video. I hope things have improved since then, although I’m sure in a lot of places they haven’t.
Eat less meat and if you do eat meat, pay extra for pasture raised animal products.
Some things get better, others get worse. It’s never a bad day to give up animal products.
If you’d like to donate to a group that’s fighting for these animals check out thehumaneleague.org.

Paul’s account is dead. Miss him. Miss him.

My three notable bans:
- Banned from politics for quoting the Constitution on treason punishment
- Banned from gym for arguing with a “pro” claiming there are no stupid exercises and bad form doesn’t exist.
- Banned from child free for saying not every one that is child free hates children with the passion of a burning sun and wants them all to die.
I still havent gotten a response from the site owners why I got completely removed (ip-ban)
Last thing was me arguing with a mod about the reason I got sub banned: me simply commenting “source:[tabloid’s name]” under a news post that was baiting incitement. they claimed I was derailing when the whole post was literally just the blog post of that bad faith tabloid in a rather “serious” sub /de XD
its a joke of a platform that carefully fosters a gullible army of bootlickers it seems, at least to me being left on read like that
An old account got banned on multiple completely unrelated subreddits because I was having a discussion with someone that self identified as a “responsible pitbull owner” and I asked them as part of the pitbull community to talk to irresponsible pitbull owners and make them responsible instead of defending them. Turns out the “responsible pitbull owner” was one of those mod hoarders on their alt account and went full pitbull when somebody dared to disagree with them. I filed a complaint to admins for mod abuse and obviously nothing happened.
And my current account has had multiple temporary bans for making fun of nazis. I mean, sure, I can take a temp ban for “inciting violence” when I remind the kids that every day is punch a nazi day. But these fragile little snowflakes can’t even take some basic banter and the mods fold immediately when the nazis start weeping. It’s funny and sad, isn’t it.
When Epstein was sent to prison and was in protective custody, I suggested that he shouldn’t have special treatment and belonged in genpop.
Banned for advocating violence against someone.
May that mod have a spasm and faceplant hard on a gravel road, then be forced to drink cold hot-dog water while listening to Baby Shark at high volume on an endless loop. And may all their teeth fall out but one, and in that, may they have a toothache.
I got banned for suggesting someone should drill a hole in the Charlie kirk statue
Compared to the ones listed above you this one I can understand, although it is really funny.
What’s funny about ruining a perfectly good drill bit?
By drilling a perfectly bad statue.

I got permabanned from the whole site for calling Ann Coulter racist lmao
I am permanently banned, for using the term “kick rocks and pound sand,” which is just American for “there’s nothing you can do.” An excuse to get one more leftist off the platform.
I got permanently banned for insinuating Donald Trump was a pedophile. I appealed and they blew me off, no response. Tried to sign up for another account and got immediately IP banned for ban evasion.
Id been on the platform for 14 years and had over 1M comment karma. Somehow the last 14 years of my contributions to the site never caused anything, not even so much as a subreddit ban, but pointing out that Donald Trump is a sexual predator was a bridge too far for them.
I find it curious that Reddit Admins are trying to limit discussion of the factual statement that our current president is a documented child rapist. Guess the investors theyre courting are probably in the files, or at the very least, dont see nothin wrong with a little pedorasty.
Reddit is quietly pivoting to become a Conservative platform, with lots and lots of monetization.
I knew that the people running the show were scumbags, but i guess I never knew they were MAGA scumbags.
I should have made the switch after their API horseshit, but I guess a lesson learned late is better than not learning the lesson at all.
Banned from gym for arguing with a “pro” claiming there are no stupid exercises and bad form doesn’t exist.
Man. Reddit has really just become a joke.
It’s so bad it almost seems intentional.
They’re making money by doing it. Conservatives monetize better.
I got a 3 day ban yesterday for “threatening violence or harm” for posting about OP breaking both his arms in a thread bringing up past reddit memes. I had left reddit for almost two years before being drawn back in for a handful miscellaneous subs. I don’t think I’ll be going back.
Lol.
I literally just got suspended 15 minutes ago for promoting violence for pointing out that America is going to see a rise in terrorism going forward for our actions in the middle east.
No call to violence. A simple statement of fact.
I know how to circumvent Reddit’s methods for keeping me out, so I’m already back in with a new account. I have a browser script that re-adds all my subs for me. And I know I’m not shadowbanned cuz I know how to check that. This’ll probably be my 50-70th Reddit account in the last decade. Which means Reddit has been trying and failing to keep me off their platform for a decade. I don’t even care that it’s just a 3 day suspension. I’m not going to be silenced for 3 days.
Fuck Reddit.
Hide your kids, hide your wife cause they banning e’erybody out here!
Looks like the account is reinstated. Good to know that’s how to reach human support there: be Literally Paul McCartney.
The posts are gone, though. I hope this was the decision of McCartney or his team. Reddit doesn’t deserve him.
My first post, after getting reinstated, would be to tell reddit to go fuck themselves
Macca should buy Reddit, fire spez, and along with him, every single power-mad agenda-driven mod. Then sell it and make a profit.
I know we’d like a Good Guy With Money™ to swoop in and rescue various corners of the internet, but I think Sir Paul has other things to do.
McDonalds?
It’s always interesting to see people commenting who don’t understand how reddit works. Which is fair - you can have an opinion. But knowing how it works makes a difference in how seriously I can take your opinion.
Mods on reddit cannot do a sitewide ban. They can ban you from one or more subreddits they moderate.
Admins do sitewide bans, which is what’s happened here, since you can see the profile has been banned.
And these days, with reddit’s shitty AI moderation, it probably means a ban done by AI.
Because this is not a normal person, someone will probably take a look at it and overturn it.
If you’re a regular joe, however, them taking a look at it even if you appeal is pretty damned rare. And as some have mentioned - things that trigger AI as a “threat of violence” that a normal human would easily see are not - doesn’t matter, AI bans. You get a warning, 24-hour, 3-day, 10-day, 30-day, then permanent. Unless there’s something that accellerates that.
As much as many people manage to survive without saying things AI picks up on, it’s damn easy to get unjustly banned, and it’s only gotten worse and worse over time.
Anyone in this thread talking about bans from mods is technically offtopic, except that reddit itself is also the topic, so that’s fine, but you should understand that a mod banning you is not similar to what happened here. :P
Yep, I got a site wide ban for wishing a missile strike on Putin. “Threat of violence”… as if it was something that I threatened to do :/
I got one for commenting on the France subreddit that it wasn’t surprising some people would carry justice by themselves if the police and courts do nothing. I wasn’t justifying, merely explaining. Subreddit ban, then permanent sitewide ban a few minutes later.
I once got a ban for quoting the current US president. Apparently when a random anonymous redditor says it, it’s “inciting violence,” but when the president says it, it’s “patriotic.”
I got several bans for the same kind of thing.
didn’t realize that clearly quoting somebody else’s words so they could be discussed was me saying and meaning those words myself
My ban was because I replied to someone who wished Trump would succumb to his cheeseburger gods. I replied that instead I hope he strokes out and suffers.
I got a ban a few times for “advocating violence” or whatever when I said “I’m surprised there haven’t been more attacks on [whatever shitty group is harming people]”
no judgement on it. just saying that I’m surprised they’re haven’t been more.
Did you send a missile strike?
Haha, I wish
And if not, WHY NOT
:)
Lmfao!
^ I can confirm this. It’s why I refuse to interact on Reddit anymore. Fuck em.
They have enough users that they don’t care that they could be banning long term users. It is ironic that they have their filters set so hypersensitive for the appearance of purity but I can find tons of hardcore porn on it.
Mods can trigger an automatism that leads to bans. Not in this case, but it is possible.
reddit is ruled by bots now, makes little sense to stay there.
only reason I still go there is my mental support subreddits. r/stopdrinking, r/CPTSD, r/RaisedByNarcissists…
If those communites were thriving here, I’d never go back to reddit again 🫤
This is basically the case with any community that isn’t one of the broad topic/mass appeal subreddits. If you’re looking for discussion on anything even slightly specific Lemmy and other alternatives just completely fall on their face. Whether that’s support for a specific addiction or even just conversation about one particular video game series, your options are Reddit, discord, Twitter, or nothing.
That used to be a problem on Reddit, too. Maybe the current drama will drive more traffic to the Fediverse.
I used to think “smaller subs can’t be infested with bots, right?” Then, over time, I noticed a slight, but ever-increasing trickle of mistakes a human would never make, often in seemingly well-thought out and empathetic replies. At closer inspection, they turn out to be just very nicely phrased, mundane truisms, or their facade totally falls apart, revealing weird, bland, pointless nonsense.
LLMs seem to be doing very well for English and, I keep reading, Chinese, because there is so much material to train them on. Their quality rapidly decreases with the number of speakers a given language has, though. I’ve learned to quickly spot LLM output (or so I tell myself) in my native language, and it’s always so disappointing.Years and years before the pandemic, I frequented a popular sort of self-help forum. There was always this one “guy” that had a perfect response for every and any question you threw at him, usually within 30 minutes or so. Always at least one full paragraph. 24/7/365. At one point, I remember seeing that he had given more than a million responses. In hindsight, that’s clearly not human behavior, but at that time, I had no idea what was going on.
everywhere is ruled by bots now
Right? From the posts on PTB the Fediverse has the exact same issues as Reddit except it’s multiplied by all the different instances and the powermods hoarding as many communities as they can grasp in its early creation.
They are quicker to just instance ban and ban across all communities than Reddit ever was.
I’ve never been banned from any instance or even community here on Lemmy. Every time I see people complain about it, I can’t help but wonder what they got banned for.
I got banned from one community ages ago for “being a terrible person”. But that was only once, and I post a lot everywhere, so it might just be an outlier mod. IMHO the important difference is that I can’t get banned from Lemmy entirely for saying “Luigi Mangione”.
I was banned from a users communities that I’ve never joined because I made a joke about there being far left states on the west coast. Either geography is not their forte or they were ban happy for anyone who doesn’t favor the right states.
Just because you don’t know it’s happening doesn’t mean it’s not happening. Like I mentioned, take some time to watch PTB.
What is PTB? Pardon my ignorance
Ye Power Trippin Bastards. It should probably be a required join for new accounts, it’s great to see how both ends of the candle are burning.
Got banned from some subs once because the editing software I was using to sanitize and delete my account hadn’t yet removed an edited comment.
Mod quoted it. Sent it to me and said this makes no sense. Banned.
The comment being edited was 4 years old.
Lmfao
Idiot mods gonna idiot.
Mod was probably a bot and was triggered on your edit
Same thing happened to be. I got banned from over 30 subreddits for using that comment delete app.
YOU CAN’T QUIT! YOU’RE BANNED!!!
Haha pretty much
Mod probably has automod set up to notify them of comment edits in old threads.
Automod detects if you edit a comment to have any banned (as per subreddit rules) word regardless and flags it to modqueue
So, in conclusion, Reddit banned McCartney for posting images from his own concert in his own subreddit? Wild…
Turns out it was copyright infringement! Who knew? /s
Even nobility is subject to royalty.
Fuck Reddit and Fuck Spez.
