You can sue them. If is not specified that must be in a row you CAN sue, or at least you can report them with the competent organization. It’s in normal language, not legal language. People using spotify are not lawyers, are normal people. If the thing says “30 minutes free” it do must mean that, no “ooohhh you mean, 30 minutes, like, in row??” bullshit.

Fuck Spotify. Also, I can’t hear the music that I want in their free plan, because I choose some song and the platform plays whatever they want. Again, fuck them.

I’m a school bus driver and in the mornings the kids beg me to play music on the radio. So I turn it on, set it to “SCAN” and then I don’t hear one fucking actual song the entire rest of the ride. Even the local classical station is somehow just people babbling.

Oof. Your bus doesn’t happen to have a way of using one of those Bluetooth FM blaster things does it? Just play something off your phone through that tuned to the right station on the radio. The one I drove didn’t havr nothing for that, but mine was old as shit. Tho I guess not old enough to have a cigarette lighter port for the kids that smoked.

Our buses have an aux input jack. I just don’t ever feel like messing around with an aux cable and USB-C adapter just for 15 minutes of music. Although i would really enjoy making my elementary school kids listen to Shpongle.

Man I haven’t gotten that “30 minutes of uninterrupted listening” shit in a few months. I swear, they’ve been slowly increasing the amount of ads per song, from like 1 ad per 4 songs to I shit you not, 2 ads per song. I usually have to restart the web page since it gets stuck on desktop, or close the app on mobile. They’re probably overcompensating since they’re salty they aren’t getting any revenue from me.

I hate the pay for ad-free subscription model. They use people’s personal data to optimize the experience, making their ads as annoying and disorienting as possible.

When Reddit first unveiled their subscription, they began spamming my phone with obnoxious herpes advertisements. The ad just said “Herpes?” in big purple letters. Since this particular subject invoked a sense of fear and anxiety, it made me more likely to pay for their removal.

Wait what. I know some platforms for managing podcasts like Anchor shove in ads, sometimes even mid sentence, but this is the first I hear of Spotify itself inserting them

This is what made a lot of people I know stop using Spotify for podcasts.

My coworker told me they were listening to a podcast, and while the podcasts host were mid ad read for their sponsor, Spotify put an ad in. So he got an ad during an ad.

Yeah even on free I never got a Spotify add on a podcast. Those were the podcasts themselves putting ads in.

Podcasters that upload to Spotify have the option of inserting ads and making money from this

Most of my podcasts don’t but some do, actually I think the ABC is the only one that does, and it says if you don’t want to hear advertising use their podcast app, so maybe it’s a way of punishing us for not using their app

Then again besides the ABC’s If you’re listening all my other podcasts are french language learning ones…

I don’t care for podcasts at all, it’s just because they’re adjacent to the app I use the most that I stumbled upon them, the ones I listen to don’t have ads except the abc’s if you’re listening and it’s what, 30 seconds for something I listen to maybe once a month?

Paying spotify to punish artists and pay industry bodies who in turn funnel money to rightoid hate groups is worse than starving artists.

Also, most artists get fuck all from Spotify or any of the streamers. Its a dead model and the only thing we’re guilty of is felony contempt of business model.

Fuck it, real fans steal the music and turn up to gigs.

Let me know how suing people for downloading music on Limewire works out for you

Also, most artists get fuck all from Spotify or any of the streamers

There’s more music released every minute that can be listened to in a lifetime, this is what happens when supply outstrips demand

Fuck it, real fans steal the music and turn up to gigs.

That’s cool and all but not every artist does gigs and most people don’t go to them, so there needs to be something for the other 99% of people, which conveniently, is called Spotify or Qobuz

I don’t know if it’s stealing but I feel better knowing when I listen to music artists get paid

              As someone else pointed out:

Today, Spotify accounts for roughly 30% of recorded music revenue.

That’s a lot of artists making music we enjoy who are able to eat at night

And before Spotify, artists were able to make more money with physical media, that the customers owned for life. Spotify essentially made the situation worse for both the artist and the consumer.

Theres also a lot of aritists having their media streamed by these companies who get absolutely zero because they’re being robbed by Spotify and the industry at large

Just because Taylor Swift gets her cut doesn’t mean its just and fair.

Infact, I’d say thats just concentrating wealth in the hands of power again… So… uhh… I’mma keep “stealing” it and buying band merch instead.

There used to be plenty of music stores where you could listen to the music before you bought it. They all died because of Spotify. Good job supporting an industry that killed physical media, pushes AI “music” to the masses and enables Nazi podcasters. Nice fucking Job.

Also, Go to Bandcamp. You can listen to all the music there. Then you can decide to buy the music and in return you get to download the FLAC files. Most artists even let you decide how much you want to pay. You come off as someone who’s never taken a step out into the world and just gobbles everything up that is spoonfed to you.

You get 30 minutes of ad-free listening, but not all in a row. Sounds like you got 8 minutes worth already; after this ad, you can get another 8 minutes.

And yet, I’ve still not seen an advert on youtube since… 2020? maybe? Sometimes it spins a bit while ublock and youtubes advertising code fights it out, but its almost never stopped working.

They’re dumb as fuck, or they know what they’re doing is dumb as fuck. But the emporer must have their new clothes and something must be done at the great expenditure of manpower specifically to enshittify the internet further.

If the google folks weren’t stupid, they’d be doing something else. Atleast they’re not the same goobas running Azure.

I wouldn’t want to be an apparatchik in that org.
