I would kill to live in a country like China that optimizes its economy for use value over exchange value.
The great leap sideways.
One has to wonder if they do this to influence USA. I mean it’s china, they do whatever they want to people.
*they do whatever the people want
China has better worker’s policies than America.
This one policy is better in this extremely superficial description.
Neither country has workers rights on par with Europe for example.
Valid.
It just means they have to write “mistakes” or “performance issues” on the paperwork instead of “replaced by robots”
You massively underestimate the efficiency of Chinese social policies.
996 is not legal either and yet many companies did that. I’m sure many still do, it’s a hypercapitalist country just like the US.
Step 1: give unrealistic KPI, cited performance increase due to AI Step 2: put employee into PIP Step 3: fire employee due to performance Step 4: do stock buyback because you have extra budget from firing employees
I’m not sure about step 4. I mean, China is pretty strict with those kinds of things.
Step 5: hire employee back as part of expansion plan and because AI did it poorly.
Strange to see China of all places to be societal ahead of everyone else.
No, it isn’t.
Of all place? Have you been living under a rock?
Not really to be honest. They’re an authoritarian regime, but they do a lot of social policies. It’s a weird mix but not a new one.
It’s not nearly as authoritarian as people like to claim. Chinese citizens hold tens of thousands of protests each year against a wide variety of topics, and the government is legally required to respond to them. As a consequence, the Chinese government is orders of magnitude more responsive to local corruption or abuses of power than almost any western country.
Turns out when you run a government like a corporation properly, you can think about long-term profits instead of only next quarter. It isn’t fully-automated luxury gay space communism, but it’s a hell of a lot better than neoliberalism.
It is indeed a weird mix in China, but I had not expected this one. Its a law that could be useful everywhere, even though it is hard to prove.
Just to save your eyes from being assaulted (had to turn off styling):

Thank you for your service. I almost got cancer by looking at the website.
I don’t need a fuckton of money to conquer the world, I have ideas. Not that I would.
How the hell does an article that we can’t even read get so many upvotes.
Stuff like this really shakes my belief in the voting system.
Because hate for AI is so blind that you can post anything and people will immediately fall for it.
People only read the title, not the article
You can’t require reading the article before someone vote/comment, but what if communities could enable “ponder voting” where users can only vote 30 seconds after viewing the post? This would prevent people from scrolling by from voting, but people who at least slightly skim the article first won’t be affected.
Probably not viably due to it having to be supported by all platforms, but just a thought.
EDIT: It could work by returning a JWT with a post ID and time when fetching the post and having the vote endpoint support providing it. Although, I can also see it being a bit annoying and being trivially bypassed by adding some code to the client.
Headline goes brrrrrr… I guess?
My take as well.
Was recently “assaulted” by a load of China-stans. So I assume this is similar pro-china (neutral about it) or at least anti-US (positive about that) community upvoting it.Yeah, I certainly don’t wanna just blindly promote china, they do a lot of things I find abhorrent, but it can’t be denied that they are so much better than the US in a number of areas.
Totally in agreement.
It’s one of those subscription blocks you can get around by selecting reading mode in Firefox.
I’m not sure if it works for other browsers but I was able to read the article.
I’m not going to hand my money to that paywall on such an overstimulating website riddled with AI.
China (its court, anyways) is a civil law jurisdiction (i.e. precedent doesn’t exist too much) so I’m curious what law’s letter is being applied here.
Is this a China propaganda site? Sure reads like it is.
Can’t say anything good about China without droves of butthurt westerners showing up to regurgitate outdated state department talking points and be weird & racist
People always shit on China, not realizing workers have good protection in general. Besides that unlike the US, China has a strong privacy protection law similar to the European GDPR. You’ll never hear about this, because that goes against what western propaganda would like you to believe.

Edit : exactly what I was expecting. Commenting ongoing negativity about China. Not talk about illegal wars started by the US, bombing children, the US genocide against the native Americans, slavery. No always the same rinse and repeat. I get it China bad. Like North Korea but worse except for all the advances in technology, infrastructure and medicine.
Same China that has 17% youth unemployment rate and says that the “lying flat” trend is “western propaganda”. Same China that is notorious for 996 where people work from 9am to 9pm 6 days per week?
You know you can be critical of Chinese policy and propaganda without hating China or liking the US. Use your brain dude, stop being a sheep.
If you feel like you need to mention those things on every post mentioning China, maybe the sheep is your mirror.
That’s exactly OP’s point: can’t mention anything positive China does without all the worlders diverting. “Keep buying ICEs, because EVs use Chinese batteries, and you wouldn’t want to fund them!”. Big Oil thank you for your service, now go grab MacDonald’s where employees are treated with the utmost respect. Don’t look up.
Not talk about illegal wars started by the US, bombing children, the US genocide against the native Americans, slavery.
This isn’t a post about the US, so those things would be completely off-topic. People do talk about those things, but it would be misplaced on a post that has nothing to do with the US.
It’s kind of weird that you’re trying to insert them here, and complaining that no one else has inserted them yet.
Gee I wonder why people criticize China for treating workers like crap. Is it the sweatshops or the Uyghur camps? It‘s a mystery.
There is a big push for pro China propaganda I keep noticing.
Be smart people, it hasn’t changed from the china you knew five years ago. Same dude still running it.
It started as pure propaganda but got adopted by all of the basement dwellers living of social support in the west who turned China’s propaganda into a lifestyle (aka tankies)
China is the same, but the western world is in a race to the bottom so at least we can wave to them as we pass them on the way down.
You didn’t know anything about China five years ago either
I think its that people see all the shitty things their own country does and realize that its not really and better. Especially if your an American and your tax dollars are used to fund a genocide for Israel and concentration camps in the US. Neither country has any morale high ground.
Probably not the case for the original creator of the post, who seems to live in China.
MBFC for Caixin Global:

Lol MBFC, the website that calls CNN a left leaning source. Might as well ask rats what they think of cats.
Media Bias Fact Check is, in itself, biased. Still, this rating isn’t that bad. They aren’t the best source (if you assume MBFC is honest), but far from the worst.
You may not be wrong, and I understand what you’re trying to convey, but I don’t think I could’ve conjured a more lukewarm response.
Do you have any alternatives you consider less biased? Claiming this, or anything like it, has its own biases seems needlessly tautological.
It’s not tautological, especially as it purports to be a standard of truth. If it were tautological, that claim would be nonsense.
Anyway, there are other alternatives. I do know there was a time where you’d be heavily criticized on Lemmy for using MBFC, as they’re fairly heavily neo-liberal/status-quo biased.
However, I’m not proposing to use one of those alternatives either though (though they may be better). I’m stating that the “MBFC says this” argument is pretty weak. It’s not engaging with the actual content, or trying to check it. It’s purely, at best, an ad hominem in an attempt to dismiss it, without concern for what it says. You’re allowed to use your own brain on occasion. You don’t have to fall back on someone else telling you if you’re allowed to engage with something or not.
Winnie the Pooh?
”Are you having a very Chinese time in your life?”
Maybe it’s the fact that every Chinese citizen is registered in the province of their birth, and can only draw social services in the province of their birth. All social services are paid for at the province level, and rich provinces do not subsidize poor provinces.
Citizens are legally barred from changing this registration except in cases of extreme wealth. The thing is, there are lots of jobs in the rich provinces and no jobs in the poor ones, so you have a permanent legal underclass who is exploited to make the lives of about 15% of the population seem pretty good.
That 15% is the ones who get free healthcare, unemployment, and generally all of the workers rights. The rest get shit all.
The problem with China is all of the fundamental lies that conflict each other. It’s communist but also the most capitalist, it’s free and citizen focused but also you have to sacrifice all of your rights and no complaining, it’s unified but also you can’t leave your province.
It’s a generic authoritarian playbook that somehow tricked a bunch of people with red flags and prettu uniforms as if it’s something more than that.
For me the litmus test is always freedom of information. No country is “for the people” while keeping people purposefully in the dark. Either it’s a lie or extreme incompetence - neither should be taken as anything other but that.
Yeah, there do exist not only class struggle but also regional supremacism and what appears to be localized form of xenophobia, that is, some groups of Chinese detest others, including economic migrants from other parts of the country.
The “Uyghur camps” are bullshit, the only countries claiming otherwise have spent the past 50+ years indiscriminately imprisoning and bombing innocent muslims around the world, zero credibility

Boy, you thought blocking ml and hexbear is enough to get away from this bullshit. Sigh…
But… this imperialism is red! That means they’re good guys, right?
Foxconn employees in particular are very well protected:

…from the ground.
“Failing to meet a quota or making a mistake can draw public condemnation from superiors. Workers are often expected to stay silent and may draw rebukes from their bosses for asking to use the restroom.”

https://wonderfulengineering.com/story-life-death-apple-forbidden-city/
The installation of suicide nets reflects a broader commitment to employee well-being and mental health within the tech industry.
https://wheelermethodist.org/religion/suicide-nets-apple/
Yeah, say that with a straight face.
Other than the safety nets this sounds exactly like working at an Amazon fullfillment center in the US. The safety nets are a good thing, letting people die isn’t.
They did a lot of thing good, but they also did a lot of thing bad. You can praise them for the aspect they did good, but holy crap you went straight to licking boot.
Giving facts is bootlicking? There is workers protection in China, there is social security, there is social healthcare and there are laws that protect your privacy. Just because it doesn’t fit your worldview, doesn’t mean I’m a bot, or CCP clown or bootlicker. I thought people on lemmy are better educated.
There are laws that protect your privacy? What lmao
It’s not about the fact you give it’s about the way you put it. You can just leave the wESteRN pROpaGaNDa out and people will not read your comment as if its another propaganda. And since you leave that part in you’re just inviting people to tear it apart.
Tell me more about the worker protections extended to the children working in Nike sweatshops.
Cool story
Never heard of 996 huh? What does the US have to do with any of this anyways? A not insignificant number of us aren’t Americans and so that doesn’t affect us since we don’t work there.
exactly what I was expecting. Commenting ongoing negativity about China. Not talk about illegal wars started by the US, bombing children, the US genocide […]
Well… Duh? This is an article about china. It’s pretty reasonable for people to be discussing china because china is the subject of the article.
Unless you’re part of any minority, do anything that doesn’t require a lot of skill, or anything deemed important enough to put it above your health and sanity (tbf 2 and 3 also apply in the west)
You forgot, you have to ignore all the good things China does, highlight all the bad (especially if it’s western fear mongering bullshit), and when you highlight how contextually the US is almost always worse for X reason, remember to “oppose both” when you seem to have way more smoke for the other. This is because “tankies bad” and don’t think about it harder obviously. /s
You forgot, you have to ignore all the good things China does
For it’s workers? China is still behind EU when it comes to workers rights and benefits though? Good for them they are slowly, very slowly progressing in that regard.
E.g. paid time off in China is 5 days a year, +5 for every decade of cumulative work experience; it starts at 4-6 weeks in the EU; China has more of it’s own youth muddled in gig economy then EU (don’t get me started on how exploitative gig work is, it is disgusting any country allows for that practice).
Even in your one cherry picked metric it’s still beating the US. Incredible.
- Why would you use shit for comparisons? Compare upwards. And why would you inject US into this thread too?
- I don’t care about this thread or you, why would I spent more effort showing more metrics?
I wonder how this works…
