If you’ve ever heard of Metamucil, that’s just psyllium husk in a powder form and it’s not just for old people. Adding some of this to your daily routine has a ton of benefits. I tried to write a few sentences explaining the benefits but they all turn out like shit.

Had me worried for a second, like I JUST started eating Metamucil crackers and they’ve been fantastic so far. Thought I was about to find out something horrible about it lol

IDK why anyone says this gives them the shits. Too much fiber slows things down. I take this stuff once a day and it just makes for less wiping and more cohesive shits. A minor improvement with no negative side effects.

You might not be drinking enough water. Psyllium gels in contact with water, but if there’s not enough it turns to rubber cement

I just eat a whole grains (brown rice, not white. 100% whole wheat etc) and plenty of fruits and vegetables that naturally contains fiber in addition to many other beneficial nutrients.

Your stool should be the consistency like toothpaste squeezing out of a tube. Mine is, albeit I go 2-3x a day , but I’ll take it!

consistency like toothpaste squeezing out of a tube

This seems way too soft, like isn’t it supposed to firm up a bit before you poop it out? Like, if I wipe 3 times and I still have soft poop behind the sphincter that ain’t right. Ideally I’m thinking like ripe peeled banana or a little harder, you know? Actually drop a few logs rather than the soft-serv shape from the emoji. Maybe this is 80s-90s thinking though, from when dog poop was white.

I take a few tablespoons, stir it up in a coffee cup and chug it every night. Even if I miss a day, I’m generally OK, but miss 2 or 3 days, it’s a 2-3 day thing to get back to normal.

Make sure you take it a couple hours before or a couple hours after you take any meds. It can encapsulate the meds before they’re absorbed into your body.

Well that’s a pain in the ass, isn’t it?

I believe it though. Researchers out there have shown that even things like time of day can make a HUGE difference in the measurable results of different remedies and medicines. It’s inconvenient as shit for those of us who would like to wake up, chug a handful of pills, and get on with our day.

Humans evolved consuming a high fiber diet, but the standard American diet of highly processed foods has little fiber. Fiber is extremely beneficial, and feeds the gut microbiome, with which we have a symbiotic relationship and which helps us make things like serotonin. Consuming a whole foods diet, boosting fiber intake with things like psyllium husk and inulin, and regularly consuming fermented foods will help maintain a healthy gut microbiome. Microbiome disbiosis is one of the hallmarks of aging, and can have a huge negative impact on your health.

Sorry to rain on your parade but psyllium plants soak up lead, and ConsumerLabs tested different brands and they all had significant lead, and like half of them had more lead than California’s suggested maximum. No way to avoid it. I switched to Citrucel or something generic that doesn’t have that problem.

Isn’t the whole point that it’s non soluble fiber though? Meaning it more or less just uh, passes through.

You know what’s good at removing lead from the body? Fiber. Real catch 22 here, drink more fiber, get more lead, drink more fiber, remove more lead.

And just to have a non-jokey answer, if it’s grown outdoors, it’s probably got lead in it. Prop 65 labels are on everything, making it the Boy Who Cried Wolf of safety labels at this point.

Tried these. Took a shit so big I had to bust it up with the toilet brush because it wouldn’t go down. Don’t use this stuff unless your hobby is shitting because you’ll have BIG FAT MASSIVE SHITS 3 times per day.

Yup. You just have to tank the first few days. If you’re initially having gigashits, I’d take that as a sign that you need this more, not less

You can get this in gummy form, its something ridiculous like only two gummy’s will give you your daily fibre intake. Do NOT take more than the directions say, my god

two gummy’s will give you your daily fibre intake

Does it? I looked at the nutrition information on several brands and the highest is 5 grams, about 18% recommended daily intake, per serving.

Costco sells a powder with stevia instead of sugar that’s pretty good. Two rounded (whatever that means!) teaspoons in the morning and two before dinner for me has been fantastic. The Kirkland brand is also half the cost of the Metamucil, as well as like half the dose. So that’s a quarter the price. It sells itself.
