There’s this story that Mark Hammil tells about being on the set of Star Wars and he mentions to Harrison Ford that their hair should be wet, since it was just wet in the previous scene.
And Ford says something like, “This ain’t that kind of movie, kid. If the audience is talking about our hair, something has already gone wrong.”
I actually really like that line. I remember watching the latest Star Wars trilogy and just nitpicking. I’m not a super fan, I don’t even own anything Star Wars. But, the movies kept pulling out stupid takes that my suspension of disbelief was gone and I kept focusing on hyper details.
I also like that Harrison Ford calls everyone kid.
I think the joke was more that she doesn’t know what fruit shampoo is. She was excited to shower, she knows that bathing is even if she doesn’t do it often.
Does that mean she’s removing body hair? No, I get why it seems inconsistent. I do think humans have a very diverse expression of body hair and some people have barely any visible body hair even if they don’t remove it.
If I want to appear hairless I need to shave daily (or more, dark hair on pale skin RIP) whereas I have friends who appear hairless on their legs and armpits unless you get really close. No, it’s not from waxing or laser, it’s just the texture and colour of their body hair.
I’m not trying to suggest this is definitely what is going on here and it would be nice to see a wider expression of appearances in media. Maybe then we’d get over the narrow view of “acceptable” body hair.
Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency
Maybe they forced her to get laser hair removal when they were messing with her. Super underrated show! I love Dirk Gently, whatever character has screen time at a given moment is my favorite character.
Wasn’t this scene pre-messing-with, or had she previously been at the CIA facility before the show started?
She was imprisoned as a child/teen.
100% guarantee that if she did have armpit hair some other sad bastard would be making a post commenting on it
Hey some people are into that!
I’m AMAB and I barely grow armpit hair at all. Barely a few strands. I’ve also never grown a beard or chest hair.
IDK it says BBC America, so I guess the explanation is quite simple.
It’s because Americans are crazy. An having perfectly natural hair under her armpits would be unacceptably disgusting for an American audience.
While torture, killing and poor hygiene is not.Or this actress didn’t want to grow out pit hair for a comedy show. Not everything is that deep
Make-up departments exist. It being a deliberate choice by the production makes much more sense.
Which goes back to the above: “Americans are crazy. having perfectly natural hair under her armpits would be unacceptably disgusting for an American”
Wouldn’t want to accurately portray women’s natural bodies lest they think it might be acceptable to be unshaven.
Natural body is a polite way of framing ungroomed. Men nor women like seeing poor hygiene. Some types of poor hygiene are seen as worse than others. Dirty hair? Sorta gross. Body hair? Disgusting.
Body hair? Disgusting.
Oh, men are supposed to shave their body hair or they’re disgusting?
I mean, I’m morally consistent on this one in that I think everyone looks better smooth. Yall can be hairy if you want though.
Thanks for recognizing the difference between personal preference and personal choice <3
pleeeease
For real? Did i understand you correct that for you it’s worse having clean hair in armpits or on legs than unwashed hair on the head?
Do you also remove ALL of your own body hair?
It is possible to not ever cut any of your hair and still be hygienic and clean!
I wish I could permanently delete all my body hair. Laser doesn’t work for me unfortunately
Are men with trimmed beards gross and unhygienic?
Isn’t that for you to decide? I know gay men who think facial hair is disgusting. Some like it. Regardless, I don’t get to tell my audience what they like, which is what you’re trying to do.
I didn’t make the assertion that body hair is unhygienic.
It’s so annoying when people edit their comments after they get replies.
Natural body is a polite way of framing ungroomed.
Natural landscape is such a hippie way of framing unpaved!
I know American women with armpit hair, I don’t retch when I see them
As an American woman with armpit hair, I get a lot of unsolicited comments.
It would be nice if there were more representation of adult women’s bodies in media.
What the fuck is wrong with people?
In this case? Misogyny.
People take issue when women don’t contort themselves into a socially accepted image.
I’m sorry, you shouldn’t have to put up with that
Forcing actors to grow body hair in their more intimate areas should not be a virtue. That’s weird and over the line and you should be ashamed.
It’s a movie. It’s not a realistic story and shown through a camera, not someone’s real eyes. Suspend your disbelief or leave.
Right … no need to grow it. You can just attach some fake hair.
Exactly, but even so, it’s an actors job, many lose weight, gain muscle, grow hair, lose hair, all the time for the role. Such a strange thing to be angry about, let the actors decide themselves lmao. What’s with the new trend of people getting offended on behalf of others?
If Christian Bale wants to make himself look like Skeletor for a role, that’s his choice.
Yup, totally with you.
It’s ok if they do it. It’s not ok to be mad if they don’t go far enough. Are you going to cripple the house actor for realisms sake?
Creating these demands and expectations is not ok.
Reading comprehension here is worse than tumblr, istg.
Thanks. Thought they said the actor should just do all the afformentioned things.
This, and I hope that it wasn’t a body hair fetish that triggered this post.
God forbid women want to be more accurately represented in media. Noooo, it has to be a fetish.
Reading that far into anything sanitation posts is illadvised at best. They post like its their job.
I loved this series. Was amazing.
First season was over the top great.
Second season dropped off a bit but still a good watch.
Saddest ending with them setting up s3
What is it?
Dirk Gently
Meanwhile they had to spend a huge emount of time airbrushing Ripley in Alien because she told them to fuck off with that shit.
Sexualization of women x sexualization of prepuberty.
It’s pedophilia. You’re welcome.
Edit: Wow the downvotes came quick, please instruct yourselves.

You’re not wrong.
There’s literally a comment in this thread that pointing out the hairless pits must be because OP has a hair fetish. EDIT: There’s now 2 comments sexualizing this topic.
Everything is sexualized with women’s bodies. Removing hair is not exempt from that.
They nipped out the non-head hair genes during the cloning, duhhhhhhhhhhh
Somebody has a kink 👆
Not everything about women has to be sexualized.
