My wife goes into complete reading trance when she gets her hands on a new novel. Nothing will get done until that book is finished. Any response will be delayed until the next chapter.

I have learned to stop anywhere in a book and it helps a lot with chores. My condolences to your wife for her addiction.

I think one of the issues couples have with cleaning is that everyone has different schedules and approaches

I never clean during weekdays, sorry but work fucks me up and when I come home I want all relaxation

When the weekend starts after my Saturday morning I’ll go on a quick cleaning binge, and then Sunday night I do another clean binge and repeat

I always found it overwhelming to get started on big messes, so cleaning everything up immediately would get around my executive dysfunction. When I got in a relationship with someone whose approach was to be a human hurricane and then deep clean every once in a while it was a culture shock and it took years of me being a bad partner to become more responsible. I didn’t really understand the executive dysfunction so I self-loathed over it.

I think, there are some things that can’t “wait”, dishes, always after meal. I never want to arrive in my kitchen and it’s full of dirty dishes.

Spend two hours of your precious weekend cleaning or 15 minutes once a day so it stays clean throughout the week.

      Hmmm decisions decisions.

15 minutes on a weeknight is like 1/8th of the time I have to myself. Two hours of the weekend is a much smaller chunk

Same. If it’s something I can just rinse or wipe down I’ll do it now but if it’s going to require elbow grease it will keep til Saturday (or soak til tomorrow when it will be rinse and wipeable). Saturdays are for cleaning. Every few weeks I take a Monday so I can deep clean without regret.

The issue is people assume their way is the only right way and when someone does it differently they interpret it as lazy or malicious, rather than responding with humility and trying to find out how their partner thinks.

I’m the one who did the dishes, cleaning, groceries, kids, after I cleaned she would make a mess then yell at me for being a slob and not keeping the house clean, also I worked full-time. When the dishwasher broke she blamed me because I’m the only one who loaded/unloaded it. when I fixed it with proof it wasn’t my fault, it was still my fault.

abusive relationships really mess with your senses of reality.

My wife says im pretty good with these things over other guys shes known. My main thing is hey if im doing dishes or laundry its because it needs to be done and other things I might do get pushed down. Im unemployed right now though so not much of an issue of having time.

Ack no, not in my house. I cook, husband does the dishes usually. I clean the dishwasher filter, maintain the machine and tell him not to clean the dishes before they go in. He doesn’t usually wash my cast iron because he was messing it up (which is not easy to do but he managed it) but all the regular dishes and most of the pots & pans are his world because he wants me to cook.

The easy fix TL;DW (though you should, Alex is great) is to, right before starting the dishwasher, run the hot water until the tap is as hot as it gets. Drastically improved outcomes.

Also clean the filter in the bottom. Do not forget proper maintenance or you’ll just be cursing him for not listening to advice he does give.

They probably mean the liquid made for dishwashers, not like regular Dawn dish detergent. My regular local grocery store carries it right next to the box of dishwasher powder

Was that defect caused by that or just happened at that moment? I can not see how it should cause damage if you use any normal detergent.

Liquid dish soap kills dishwashers. The bubbles mean the motor and/or pump fills with bubbles instead of water and often causes them to burn out.

That makes sense, you do not want bubbles and it surely will overflow. But why should they burn out because of that? There is lower resistance etc. and cooling is still mostly working. I really see no way how it damages the machine. I repaired a bunch before, so this is not coming from nowhere. So I googled and found this: https://robertbair.com/blog/i-accidentally-put-dish-soap-dishwasher-now-what And that makes total sense. It only damages if the soap “crust” builds up too much. That is not a quick thing to happen. Otherwise it is all about the mess or makes.

Most dishwasher pumps rely on the water flow generated while running to remain cool under normal use. When I say that they burn out, I mean that the motor literally burns its wires bad enough that the electric signal no longer carries properly.

All it takes for this to happen is for the motor to run for a length of time without anything going through it, which bubbles can and do prevent happening. You will find this in nearly every single pump that pushes water: the design requires water running through it in order to maintain proper temperatures.

Dishwashers often have a single pump for water flow, so if the washer fills with bubbles and the water gets low enough, the one thing that cools the dishwasher motor can easily stop running for a couple hours, despite technically being surrounded by water.

Only sometimes. Just put everything in as is and hand wash what doesn’t come out clean. This applies more to newer washers rather than the old ones that just redistribute the filth.

I remove solids, especially vegetable matter, cell walls and all that. But mainly a fork over the garbage, and on some occasions a light rinse.

And I’ve seen every TC video there is. Even made a patron account just to sub to him. But I could never get the desired result from dishwasher dust, and so I’m a pod man, and I’m happy with what I see, and that’s that.

There’s an old Mitch Hedberg joke that goes something like “This shirt is dry clean only, which means… it’s dirty”

I think the same applies exactly for dishes that aren’t dishwasher safe. I have a dishwasher but my sink still has a pile of dishes waiting.

This, but both ways. Neither my wife nor me washes the dishes regularly. Needless to say a dishwasher was a game changer.
